Dylann Storm Roof: Natural Monster or Manmade Monster?

Americans must start to think about the name Dylann. It was Dylan Klebold who was one of the shooters of Columbine. Despite an additional “n” at the end, it did not change the monster in him. There is no denying that Dylann Storm Roof is a monster after his recent devilry where he went into Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina- a black historic church, sat with them for more than an hour, and then he shot many of them, killing 9. After he was arrested, he was seen with a smirk on his face as if saying, “I told you all I was going to do it.” My concern this afternoon is to point our collective failure in white privilege, the human heart, parental, educational and societal responsibilities in Dylann. I will also show that the society has helped to create these monsters. It was hate crime because by virtue of the definition, hate crime is a crime that targets a specific group of people due to hate.
Hate could be seen in him by the badges of  White Rhodesia and Apartheid on his jacket, the confederate flag on his car, and the testimonies he gave his friends. It cannot be denied that his parents knew that he had hate against the black people. Who gave him the 45- caliber pistol as a birthday present? He thinks that they were raping their women and destroying their country. However, six of the nine people he killed were women, so his motives were totally hate. There is such entrenched racism in this country that only God knows why. Dylann believes that the country is theirs and the blacks are mere squatters. Listen to him, “you rape our women and are taking over our country.” This is all white privilege!
Two students came to me one day and said, “Mister, do you think that women have enough rights?” I said to them, “My daughters, first things first. Think about it, even if they gave women all the rights in the world and you dropped out of high school, you will not benefit from those rights. Those rights will not serve you any purpose.” “I want you to graduate and have a career, then you can benefit from the little you have now and fight later for more.” I explained. Both of them said in unison, “You make more sense, mister.” “We really wish you the best.”  They added.  Even if they gave women all the rights on earth, but you did not set yourself up to benefit from those rights, the rights will be useless.  If white Dylann does not set himself up to use his white privilege, it will be useless, no matter how many black people he killed. If there are no whites to use the white privilege, those privileges will still be there because the blacks cannot change their color to benefit from them. The privilege comes first with color before merit, so he has himself to blame if he did not position himself up to benefit from them. Furthermore, the money he used to buy the bullets, he could go to Europe and visit the Red District where he will sleep with the most beautiful women God ever created. Why did he need to kill people for that? Suffer that  I speak as a carnal man. That is, even if we kept the sinful side of the whole act of wanting sex out of marriage.
Another lesson is failed parenting. Train up a child the way he should go and when he grows, he will not depart from it.”(Prov. 22:6.)  Dylann’s uncle: Carson Cowles said this, “Nobody in my family had seen anything like this coming." The society is too artificial. If people will go deeper to understand others, we will be able to help them before they explode. I see many young people left to themselves. The fact that he was left to espouse those white supremacist ideologies show failed parenting. They should have stopped them while he was young. Perhaps, he learnt them from home because oranges cannot come from an apple tree.
The third lesson is failed education: He was 21 and had graduated from High School. That means, he it has not been long that he left high school. How did none of his teachers engage him in a conversation when they knew his ideas? Kids are much open these days that if you show them care, they will share with you the way they think. Dylann had received a failed education. Education was to make you civilized, so you can be a better person and a better citizen. America claims it is civilized, but they cannot deal with people speaking their minds. That is why the young man definitely kept his hatred for black people wrapped, even though he pretended to have a black man as a friend. We have a long way to go towards civilization, my compatriots!
The fourth lesson is failed society. His uncle, “…recalled telling his sister, the suspect's mother, several years ago that he was worried about Roof and that the boy was too introverted.” What did he do as an uncle? If your sister has kids and their fathers were away, you jumped in and began sending them to school and taking care of them. When you heard that a neighbor’s kids were not going to school, you jumped in to help. You sent money to most of your neighbors because if they were not happy, you will not be happy. The shame of your family was your shame. This society does not see things that way. They will care for animals better than humans and after a calamity, they show up to give lectures on TV or tell the world how, “no one saw this coming.” No one saw this coming because they were absent! Absentees don’t witness events, not if you are Witness 40 in the Michael Brown case. His friends say that he boasted about killing black people to ignite a race war, but they did not talk him out of it. Birds of the same feathers flock together. They are now talking because they want to appear on TV,  We have seen this same script played over and over again.
Another lesson we learn is the use of guns. President Obama is wrong to think that guns are the problems. By the way, I don’t own a gun, and I do not have one. However, I still don’t think that guns are the problems because Britain does not use firearms, but they have the highest homicide rates in the whole of European Union. People need to be taught about the sanctity of human life, so a gun will be used only for the purpose of hunting or self-defense because there are many people who have been killed by people with no prior criminal or mental health records. The argument about guns is the same about women. Simply because there are women, it does not mean that one has to sleep with all of them when he is married. Since there is adultery, are we going to start doing extensive background checks to make sure that adulterers do not get married, or are we going to keep sex away from them? We need to circumcise our hearts because guns on their own do not kill, even though the precipitate the killing. You see, "the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it (Jer 17:9)?" The American church should evangelize America first before they start running abroad. This is a sign of the degradation of the human heart more than racism.
Nonetheless, it is our obligation to forgive, no matter the magnitude of the offense. It is wrong for anyone to wish the family or even him evil. The call for vengeance perpetrates the cycle of violence and hatred that keeps taking precious lives. Vengeance belongs to God, so  give to God what is God's. We are all one and the same people from the human race, made in the image of God so let us embrace humanity, people

Until then, Dylann’s shame is our collective shame.
