Unequal Justice: Judge's daughter gets no jail time for sex with student.

On October 1, 2014, it was reported that Shelley Dufresne, a married mother of 3 and an English teacher at Destrehan High School in Destrehan, Louisiana with Rachel Respess were arrested and charged with having a threesome with a 16 year old boy from 9 p.m-6 a.m the next day.[1] She struck a deal by pleading guilty to one count of obscenity, so she received a deferred sentence of three years in prison, three years of probation, pay $1000 fine, complete a mental health program, have a curfew that only allows her to take the kids to school, church and also go to her treatment. Louisiana’s Age of Consent is 17, and the acceptable age difference between the two is 3. That means, the person having sex with the 17 year old must not be older than 20 years. Dufresne is 32 years old. She is half the age of the young man. How on earth did she avoid jail time?
There seems to be two simple reasons. The first is in the words of Eric Owens, “As this graphic from Mandatory.com illustrates fairly conclusively, judges tend to find it in their merciful hearts to give lower prison sentences (and often no prison time at all) to attractive female teachers who have sex with underage male students. Ugly female teachers frequently fail to garner such compassion.”[2]  The second is that her father is a judge. This reason is the most plausible one for her propitiation. Otherwise, it should have worked better for Kathryn Ronk (pictures below) than her since she too is more beautiful, but it did not because she had no father as a judge.

Even in her mugshot, Kathryn Ronk is like a goddess!
Kathryn Ronk was a Spanish teacher at Bishop Foley High School. She was 30 years old when she had sex with a 15 year old. She was half the age of her lover, and the boy was also one year shy of the Age of Consent just like Dufresne, yet she was sentenced to 15 years with eligibility for Parole after serving at least 51/2 years just because her state had criminalized relationship between teachers and students or school employees. Isn't 51/2 years too much for sex with teenagers? Is that justice? I think that losing one's license should be commensurate to the crime. Let us say that both of them had sex with people below the Age of Consent. What about Steve Parkma
Steve Parkman was arrested and charged with having sex with a minor. The problem was that, although Parkman was 32, the girl was 17 which was a year above the Georgia consensual age with zero difference in age gap. Georgia age of consent is 16, and the acceptable age difference between them is zero. That is, once a girl is 16, she can have sex with anyone she wants, no matter the age difference. The judge will later throw out the case against him.[3] However, he had been sullied for no just cause. To show that the law is unjust, the Georgia Lawmakers decided to make a crime by passing another law.[4] Here is where the law is stupid. If a teacher has sex with a student, even if the student has attained the age of consent, they say it is a crime; however, there is no law barring the teacher from having sex with a girl who has attained the age of consent but does not go to school.
Where then is the justice? If God guides people in making laws, then this is one of those cases where God has made a mistake. However, if God has not made a mistake, the legislators are wrong here because they make unequal laws. Permit that we move just a little bit away from sex. I want to show you how the law in this country is so unjust.
11 teachers in the Atlanta Public Schools system have been convicted of fraud and racketeering.[5] They were immediately remanded into custody after their verdict and were sentenced  to 7 years or less in jail on April 8, 2015. Do you think that these teachers should even go to jail while those who sleep with students are given probation? As much as their act is unethical, I don’t think that it warrants a jail sentence. However, that is what happens in America, the country that runs around the world seeking to install just societies. How come there is no justice here then?
Marissa Alexander had an abusive husband, she said. In one of his violent stupors, she shot a warning shot in the presence of their two children. She was convicted of aggravated assault on three counts and sentenced to 20 years in jail. Folks, I am talking here of 20 years for firing warning shots in the air against someone putting your life in danger. When she appealed, the prosecutor said she was going to ask for 60 years.[6] Is this what you call justice? Well, I am not sure you have had enough of sex today, so let us go back to sex.
Do you still remember the story of Mr. Megargel Chris: a former janitor who was sentenced to 6-23 months in jail for sexting with a student?[7] The worst of it was that he had to register as a sex offender. He was a janitor. He neither had a father nor godfather who was a judge. Do you mean that texting an underage person is more serious than actually having sex with the said person? Ok, well hear another story. How did it happen that a sex offender was working or teaching in a school?
Tera Hines was convicted of having sex with a minor. She served her sentence and registered as a sex offender, but she was hired to work in a school.[8] When the news caught up with the school, they put out a statement that they do not comment on personal issues. I do not agree with the sexual offender laws; however, I wonder how she got a job while others did not get and worst still those with clean records cannot even find one. It only tells you that the law that many pretend to up hold and say that it is blind, is really not blind. It sees the colors, the status and the relationships.
Notwithstanding, I do not blame Dufresne nor her father, so they should not lose sleep on anything. Firstly, I don't think that anyone should go to jail for consensual sex with a minor, and secondly, if we had the same opportunities that our fathers were jusges, we will do just the same thing. I just wanted to show that the law we pretend to uphold is applied differently to different people. While the colored people are disproportionately affected, the poor and the downtrodden face worst. We all know all countries are corrupt, but there is no country on earth whose citizens try to lecture everyone about justice as the citizens of the United States. Unfortunately, they do not live to the very standards they want to uphold other people. There is no way she should not have served jail time while others are ditched 15 years and others are given jail time for mere cheating. The justice system is unfair and needs a total overhaul.

Until then, God hates injustice!
