CAN A TRUE CHRISTIAN HATE OTHER PEOPLE?

Katy Perry says that she is disgusted with traditional Christianity.

When I heard this question, I just began to laugh because Christianity is now a laughingstock. There are rules that God has laid down for us to show the world that we love Him. We must love him and our neighbors as we love ourselves, we must keep our promises, we must not be two face, and we must obey his commandments. Respecting our parents brings us long life (Deut 5:16). Katy Perry once justified why she was leaving traditional Christianity by saying, “Accountability is rare to find, especially with people like myself, because nobody wants to tell you something you don’t want to hear. I actually don’t trust people who start to turn on me because they get scared of telling me the truth.”
It is strange to see that some Christians do not talk to their families, neighbors or even friends. They have people they don’t want to see.It is not forbidden for a christian to be angry, but it is forbidden for that individual to bear a grudge, rancor or spite (Eph 4:26).  One person once told me that his dog is worth more than certain human beings. Jesus laid down the foundation on how we should treat people in what will later be called the Golden Rule.  It states, “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” (Mt 7:12).  In other words, “Do unto others what you want them to do unto you.”
Would you like to have kids and they don’t talk to you? If you would not like that, why do you do it to your own parents? Why are people abandoning their parents in nursing homes, group homes and other facilities without visiting them? Why is your mother living alone in an apartment when you have a huge home living there with dogs and cats?  Why are there so many homeless people in the streets when we have big mansions with no one in them?
Jesus demonstrated his theory with the way he cared for people, including even strangers. To buttress his ethos, he narrated the Parable of the Good Samaritan. This parable shows us that Jesus was against racism, encouraged generosity and a good name. It is sad to see people who go to church, but they are very racist, stingy and have a very bad name, yet they talk about believing in God. Our rightness or wrongness towards humans portrays our rightness or wrongness towards God because if we do not show love to the human being we see, we cannot show love to God we do not see (1 Jn 4:20).  You cannot claim that you love God; meanwhile, you do not talk with your own very parents. Now many people establish their large families on Facebook and other forums. You wonder why they are never happy.
If you want to show that you love God, you must keep his commandments (Jn 14:15, 23), and his commandments are simple: love God and love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27). If we live our Christianity as Christ taught us to do, we will impact lives without even too much ado. If you love God, you cannot make promises and not fulfill them. Many people think that they can hate their fellow human beings and make that up by treating animals well. Others try to redeem themselves by doing community service or feeding the hungry during holidays. Just the mere fact that Christians too take fake names to insult others on the internet will attest to the lack of love for God because it tells you their intention was sinister. They want to build an image that they do not have. Your failure to keep the commandments of God to show that you love him could not be replaced by doing good works. Otherwise, it will mean that you are saved by your whims and caprices.
A few days ago a young woman asked me what she should do with her fiancĂ©e who left her for another girl in the same church.  I know how people always ask me that, “is it better to have a bad marriage or to have a broken engagement?” Well, it is not; nevertheless, you must have a more serious reason than the fact that you have seen another beautiful woman or rich man. It must be on substantive difference and not on egoistic penchants. Moses told the children of Israel that, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Num 23:19)  Peter said, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (1 Pet 3:8). How then do people just break their promises to their neighbors (nearest person to you) without blinking if it pleases God or not?
To Show God that you love him, you must keep his commandments. Every time you feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit the sick, visit the prisoner, you are actually doing the work of God. However, that is like sacrifice. You must obey the commandments; otherwise, your good works will be like filthy rags before God because obedience is better than sacrifice to God (I Sam 15:22).  God keeps his own promises, so he wants you to keep yours. He has no pleasure in fools (Eccl 5:4).
Therefore, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Mt 5:16).
Until then, I think God will be mad at anyone who does not talk to their parents or keeps enemies.

WAS STEPHEN A. SMITH RIGHT THAT PROVOCATION BE CONSIDERED IN A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

This discussion ensued because Ray Rice beat his then fiancee (who is now his wife): Janay Palmer and then wedded her before any court action. He was subsequently suspended for two games by the NBA.  People began falling fits about a man laying his hands on a woman and how the suspension was inadequate.  That is where Stephen A. Smith in an attempt to ditch out some wise counsel became the victim of American hypocrisy. He advised that women should refrain from provoking situations that could cause them to be beaten. A lot of women did not like it, so he apologized. To placate the vocal majority, he was suspended from his job. Stephen Smith should not have apologized because by apologizing for a good stand, he emboldens the unrealistic majority. When a vocal majority who slept on the wrong side of their beds are going astray, the silent minority who slept on the right side of their beds should bring them back. He failed to stand for what is right so that he will look nice. All the elucidations he made were unwarranted.

Sometimes it is difficult to understand what is wrong with people in this country. The United States government recently issued out a warning to Americans to beware when going to the Middle East. This month, the government again issued another warning about visiting Ebola regions. Another illustration is the man with the wild dog. As I was growing up, there were many homes with “Beware Wild Dog” hung on their fences. In each of these examples, there is a strong desire to avoid provocation. What Stephen Smith wanted was for people to consider the element of provocation. The society is hypocritical in that, that same element is accepted in the court of law, it is accepted in science, and it is accepted in religion acquiescently. All Stephen Smith is asking the country to do is be realistic. This situation is one of those conflicts between realism and idealism. The ideal is that domestic violence is unacceptable; no man should put his hand on a woman. The realistic part about it is that there are men and women who abuse their spouses. We have now moved from idealism into realism. The next thing we want to consider is cause and effect.
Is every abused spouse without a fault? Does a man just get up and start beating his wife? Does a woman just gets up and starts to insult her husband for just no reason? If there is a reason, then Stephen Smith is right that perhaps the society should look into those reasons (provocation) that caused the beating.
Newton’s Third Law of Motion states, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” If you declare a war, it does not mean that you will end it at your timing, neither does it even mean that you will decide the weapons of warfare. Your enemy could use anything they have. That means, there are some situations that those who are beaten provoked them. Let me give you a clear example. I visited a home one time and the man was trying to explain to me why he has not been complying with his own share of the responsibilities when the woman from nowhere said, “See how he is speaking like a fool.” The man retorted, “Get out of my face, mad woman.” The woman jumped and slapped the man. She added, “Who are you calling mad woman?” Before I knew it, the man was on her like a bee. Shouldn't the woman consider that element of provocation if she does not want to be beaten? She is not as strong as the man, so she should not have slapped the man first.
Recently, Jon Jones and Daniel Comier had a catfight while trying to promote their fight. Daniel Comier claims that Jon Jones provoked him by placing his chin on his head, so he (Comier) pushed him by the throat. That caused the melee. One thing is clear; the element of provocation.  That is our most recent experience. To solve the issue, Joe Rogan advocated for no contact policy during stare-downs. That is an attempt to eliminate the possibility of provocation. The ideal is that they are professionals who know that by fighting out of the cage they bring disrepute to their sport, but the reality is that they still did it. Would it then be wrong for anyone to consider the element of provocation during stare-downs?
Let us look at it in the realm of the law. There are instances where provocation has been used as a defense in a criminal case. Why would it be even remotely considered if it was not necessary? In   2004, James Ramage was acquitted of murder charges after killing his wife of 23 years. His defense argued that he was provoked, so the jury found him not guilty.[1] How can a jury acquit a man of murder for killing his wife, yet we say that provocation should have no place in a domestic violence situation?  In January of this year, “It took a Buffalo County jury seven hours to acquit Jonathan Schmidt of felony first-degree assault of a Kearney man.”[2] What was his defense? He was provoked! Now, take a look at what the last woman in this video said.

Finally, I will go to the book that has all the answers. In proverbs 18:6 it reads, “A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.” (Prov 18:6). It simply means that, a fool’s mouth gets them into constant trouble that brings them a beating.  We are seeing that the bible acknowledges someone could provoke their own beating, both male and female. Could some domestic violence victims be the cause of their own beatings? If they can, then Stephen Smith is right and should not have been punished. At the same time though, the Bible cautions us not to be easily provoked (Ecc 7:9). However, could an individual be under sustained provocation that causes them to snap? Paul told the Ephesian fathers not to provoke their children to anger (Eph 6:4). Is it then possible that someone could be provoked to anger? Could a spouse provoke their wife or husband to anger? Could Ray Rice’s girlfriend had provoked him to anger?
Therefore, to be able to solve domestic violence or reduce it, we must take the element of provocation seriously. Let us not muzzle opinions like those of Stephen Smith, for they are the voices of reason in a hypocritical world that struggles between idealism and realism.
Until then, domestic violence is barbaric and should not exist, so we should avoid provoking it.

Can Everyone Make Their Own Jesus?

Reza Aslan while trying to sell his book and promote his movie claimed that everyone can make their own Jesus. In that clip, he called some preachers, “charlatans”. That doesn't make him more genuine than the others he calls charlatans. He bases his book on Josephus who was the epitome of Jewish history. By using Josephus who endorses the biblical narratives about Jesus, he shows the Bible to be authentic and infallible. If the things written therein are true, then everyone cannot make their own Jesus. It is normal to have a kaleidoscope of opinions in matters of doctrine in each religion as they deal with the mind; however, eisegesis has its limits because it eliminates grounds for absolutes. If absolutes are eliminated, then Jesus cannot be the only way to God; meanwhile, we all know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father without passing through Him. People may differ on whether Jesus wants them to pray standing or sitting or sleeping or crying, but they must all agree that Jesus wants them to pray. No doubt, we do agree that there will be varying opinions because the human being should live by reason and not by instinct. In using reason, people think. We just don't agree that those tenets which are the core of Christian ethos should undergo relativism.

Others have claimed that we cannot even talk about Christianity and Jesus because Paul invented the religion and Constantine made it a state religion. A quick question: how can Paul would have invented a religion that started before he came? Christianity already had its roots before Paul's conversion in chapter 9 of Acts. Paul could not be trusted easily by the disciples in Jerusalem, so he went back to Tarsus. From that time until the when the nickname "Christian" was coined in Acts 11:26, Paul was not yet back in Jerusalem. I want you to bear with me because I will take you step by step. In 313, Constantine and Licinius passed the Edict of Milan which granted all religious freedom. That was a year after making Sunday an official day of rest. During the first council of Nicea in 325, they were merely dealing with the Donatist and Arles controversies. However, it was rather Theodosius (emperor 378-395 A.D) who made Christianity the state religion. Therefore, they may want to revise their history. If Constantine was Roman emperor from 306-337 and Christianity was made a state religion in the Edict of Thessalonica in 380 AD, how can Constantine be the one who codified it? It seems people have been memorizing the wrong stuff, my friends!
Moreover, the conclusion that the Bible and Jesus are fiction is baseless because anything, person or event that can be ascertained in time and place as having existed with historical, archaeological, customary and traditional proofs cannot be called fiction. You will do well to memorize the correct dates and events. I have read almost all of Shakespeare and most prominent literature books on this earth, but none of them transforms like the Bible. The Bible has been a light unto my path and a lamp unto my feet. In the midst of hopelessness, the Bible has always vivified my hopes. Read and put into practice the prescriptions of the Bible, and you will feel the same as I do!
Furthermore, Reza claimed that the preachers are preaching wealth despite Jesus being against it. Jesus was not against wealth; he was against wealth hoarders as we read here, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.” (Mt 6:19-20). If wealth was inherently evil, Jesus would not have asked them to store them anywhere, whether in heaven or on earth because he was without sin. Jesus wanted those with two coats to give one to the person who has none. He wanted "the haves" to share with "the haves-not", the privileged to share with the less privileged. In short, he wanted people to love their neighbors as they loved themselves. Therefore, even Reza Aslan is selling his own Jesus he made for his books and movie promotion.
Some people have claimed that Mt 6:19-20 was metaphorical. In that case, the allusion to “mansions in his father's house” (Jn 14:2) are metaphorical too. Why did Jesus not condemn the wealth of the prodigal son's father (Lk 15:11-32)? Jesus was never against wealth! It is not sustainable in the bible. The metaphor of the rich man and the needle simply means that wealth puts one in a more precarious position to follow God. The wealth hoarder must first unburden himself by storing in heaven rather than on earth. To store in heaven is not as giving to a pastor or a preacher. That is why the love of money and not money itself is the root of all evil. If money was the root of evil, God and Paul would have said; "you cannot go near evil, so you should run."
No, no, no, that is not what it means. It means you should give to those who do not have. There are many churches that are too rich to be given anything! When a pastor starts to own Rolls-Royce, private jets and more than three cars, they do not more need the offerings of the people. When the pastor's family wear expensive clothes, drive expensive cars, live in expensive mansions, then they have outlived the level of church offerings. When a pastor changes new suits and shoes everyday, it means he has outgrown your offerings and tithes. You should give them to the church that needs them. He should sell what he has first and use the proceeds for the ministry.

Until then, everyone cannot make their own Jesus.

Jerry Jones: A Victim Of Kiss and Tell Syndrome And A Culture of Betrayals.

Many people have asked me what I thought about Snowden and Manning or Sterling’s girlfriend and now this Jerry Jones Saga, so I will try to state my position in this article. Every time I hear about someone who has come out as a whistleblower, or I hear that there are some leaked pictures, my heart bleeds. It does not bleed because I know any of the victims, but it bleeds because untrustworthiness is a character trait that the Lord hates. There is a teaching technique called “Show and Tell” where teachers or students describe what they have to their students or classmates. In love, they have “Kiss and Tell”. In “Kiss and Tell”, the less famous reveal their sexual exploits with the famous to the media. In this lesson, I will show you why untrustworthiness, albeit a zeitgeist in America is a terrible behavior people should not emulate but which we seem to hold in very high esteem. Who cares who Jerry Jones sleeps with?
While “Show and Tell” is not bad, “Kiss and Tell” is very heinous; it shows a lack of trustworthiness. Some people do it for materialistic purposes (Sterling’s girlfriend and Jones strippers), others do it for revenge (revenge porn) or even just posting the medical records of your ex,  some for lack of connection, others want to gain fame (Snowden and Manning), and some are just weak people who can never keep anything secret. Furthermore, there is another level of betrayal that is like “Kiss and Tell” which is revealing secrets from one’s jobsite. Manning and Snowden are included in this list because when you decide to work for someone, you are entering into a relationship that could be likened to a marriage for economic purpose.
Permit that I start with professional situations like whistleblowing at worksites. Let me take the cases of Bradly (Chelsea) Manning and Edward Snowden. Manning leaked military secrets to WikiLeaks which were still classified. Edward Snowden leaked National Security Agency documents to the Guardian and Washington Post. On that day as I watched the TV interview of Snowden, I was saying to myself, “this is so wrong.” There are many ways he should have exposed his displeasure without putting in harm’s way the security of the nation.  What was his motivation? Even in our homes, we do not expose every secret.
When I was growing up, there were times that my parents will speak in another language to keep the secret from us. Here in America, I have seen parents speak in whispers to conceal some information from their child. Why then do we think that the government should not have secrets?
This is why both Manning and Snowden are not heroes to me. They took a job that they knew required them to keep secrets.  They accepted it. If they did not like the nature of the job, they should have left while still being interviewed, or they should have left once they started working there. The worst was for them to leak the secrets to the enemies of the United States. Manning was found guilty and sentenced to 35 years in prison, and Snowden is still living on the run in Russia. If you realize it, I have not mentioned people like Peter Burton and Collen Rowley whose whistleblowing brought more blessing to the country than heartache.  Notwithstanding, I still think that Manning’s sentence is too harsh, and Snowden should be allowed to return home for a probation sentence because there is also a good part in what both Snowden and Manning did.
Now, let me draw your attention to the other part of the untrustworthiness. The "Kiss and Tell" syndrome. That really made me write this article this morning. I am talking here of people, especially women who sleep with men and then run to broadcast it. Why? Where is your dignity, woman?
I am not condoning adultery; however, when a single woman sleeps with a married man like the case of Tiger Woods where one of his mistresses: Loredana Jolie even wrote a book to brag of her trysts with the golfer, we cannot cheer them up. Where is her dignity? People are even buying and reading the book; thus, they are encouraging adultery. She should have been ashamed to stand out and speak anymore. Hellas, in this country, it is even great achievement to come out with your trysts despite the fact that you could be ruining the other person’s career and livelihood. In some countries, they will stone women like that.
I am sure you remember what happened to Donald Sterling. As much as what he said was repugnant, it was still his private personal opinion to a doxy. Where is her trustworthiness when she carried the information to Sterling’s enemies? Now we see this Jerry Jones saga. These strippers knew that someone was taking those pictures according to their postures. They knew what they were doing. They may cash something from it, but that is it! They have lost a cash cow because of their hyperopia. It is the same with Sterling’s girlfriend. Her steady source of income will no more be there. Nonetheless, the havoc these untrustworthy behaviors cause their victims is more than the gain the perpetrators benefit. If I ended here without looking at it in the view of the Bible, then I would have failed in my duties because the Bible is a lamp to our feet and a light to our paths.
Solomon advised people that they should not allow kindness and loyalty to leave them because therein lies the source of our favor from God and even good reputation from people (Prov 3:3-4). That is very important. By revealing your trysts with anyone who doesn't want it revealed, you betray them and become cruel to them. There is no doubt that Snowden, Manning, V. Stiviano, Loredana and those strippers in Dallas have damaged their reputations, but the acts of the last two were cruel to their victims.
Amongst the seven things that the Lord hates, one of them is one who spreads rumors (Prov 6:16-19). Those friends like Linda Tripp (who betrayed Monica Lewinsky), Ginger White (who betrayed Herman Cain) and the friends of the stripers who took the pictures are out to spread rumors. That is something that God really hates. The Bible is very clear on that, “He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy conceals a matter.” (Prov 11:13) Rumors like these jeopardize the lives of their victims. Monica Lewinsky could no more have a public life. Herman Cain dropped out of the presidential race he was leading.  Sterling was forced to sell the Clippers as we see here. Jerry Jones is now a laughingstock. Why do we as a society extol an adulterer who slept with another woman’s husband? These strippers knew that Jerry Jones was a married man. If they had any modicum of morality, they should have avoided him, talk less trying to cash out of it.
One thing we should learn from this is that Christ is coming soon because spreading rumors is one of the signs that he is on his way (Mt 24:10). You should not forget that he that is unfaithful with little things, should not be trusted with bigger things (Luke 16:9-15). No one who became rich from betrayal has ever been happy. The list is long but at least look unto Judas Iscariot. It explains to you why most women who seized properties from their ex-husbands during divorce did not last with the wealth because their husbands acquired them before they came. It is important for everyone to seek to be loyal. "Kiss and Tell" is a very cruel behavior that no one should be proud off. It is an obligation to be trustworthy. Do not seek revenge, you should allow God to deal with it. You should never share your trysts with anyone if you ever want to keep them secret.

Until then, we must strive to be trustworthy.

St Arrey of Ntenako.

What Does God Really Want From Me?

Micah 6:6-8. Many of us try each day seeking to please God. At times when we run into deep trouble, we wonder if God is the cause. When we are very happy, we want to do things that will make him feel proud of us. It is not only now that the desire to please God has preoccupied man, it has been since the foundation of the earth.  Even the chosen people of Israel had to seek his opinion on his wishes. In this dramatic dialogue, the Bible presents Micah and Israel:

Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (Micah 6:6-9).

These verses are the core of our lesson today. After reading this text, you will know exactly what God wants from you.
Many people think that God enjoys their sacrifices, so they perform them day after day and week after week like the priests did. They do that in the form tithes, offerings and community and volunteer service. They feed the hungry and visit the sick in the hospital, yet they live very wicked and sinful lives. They are racist, they backbite, the cheat, they give to showboat, they hate their neighbors, they beat their wives, they abuse their kids and the insult other people who do not look like them. There is something nowadays that I don’t seem to understand amongst Christians. You are talking with them, but immediately after you turn your back, they are speaking evil of you.
God once asked Samuel and then he answered it himself that, “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” I Sam 15:22. God does not desire sacrifices and offerings, and he does not require our sin and burnt offerings. Jesus has already sacrificed himself for us. All God wants now from us is a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart (Ps 51:17). What can we give to God that is above our souls? Jesus asked, “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?” Come to God with thanksgiving and music. Praise Him for his good works. Sacrifices with sin are like filthy rags. They will be rejected because they do not please God. That is why many cannot find God today because he has withdrawn himself away from them.
The time has passed for human sacrifices. Many people are merely trying to offer sacrifices today to God as if to placate him or flatter him. Many are following the footsteps of the world. They are imitating what everyone else is doing. One thing they don’t know is that God does not need money from their bank accounts or their sumptuous homes. He does not need a bull from their stall or goats from their pens because “The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him.” (Prov 15:8). To God, to do what is right and acceptable is better than any sacrifice one could offer. How many of us still keep perpetuating the cycle of racism, yet we are offering huge sums of money to charity? How many people volunteer all their time but they hate their own very relatives? Think about those who are divorce and want to kill their partners to take everything just to make them suffer? They seek the Lord from one place to another, but they do not find him because he hides himself from wicked people like them.
.Walking with God is a special thing. Enoch walked with God faithfully for at least 365 years. All that the Lord wants from mankind is to walk in obedience, to love him, to serve Him because that is why humanity was made (Eccl 12:13). God has set before mankind life and prosperity, death and destruction. We must each chose if we want the former or the latter.
To maintain justice is to do what is right. Now, is it right for you to treat other people as inferior being simply because you are the dominant group? See what is happening in Gaza. Christians are killed in Gaza too. It is not because they are terrorists; their sin is that they are Palestinians. To be humble is to have a contrite and lowly spirit and to revive the same in others (Is 57:15). God has pleasure in those who are humble contrite in heart and who tremble when at his word. How important is the word of God to you? If it is, then you will obey it at all times.
To show mercy we should also identify with the oppressed. Silence in the face of oppression is endorsement of the same. Do no wrong to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not spill innocent blood. "This is what the LORD Almighty said: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another” (Zech 7:9).

Until then, God wants justice, mercy and humility from you.

St Arrey of Ntenako.

Southern Cameroons Should Keep Their Schools Closed For Their Own Good.

I hear talks of schools reopening because children can no more stay home. Is it that all those who were arrested have been released, or is...
