God Doesn't Come Cheap In Cameroon

My attention was drawn to the title of an article that was sent to our Camnet forum on the 5th of February 2011. I was a bit reluctant to comment because I know the said preacher[Note:1]. Notwithstanding, since it concerns Christendom in general, it is important I cross-examine some errant behaviors of modern day preachers underlined in the article. Our sole weapon will be on biblical verses and godly syllogism. Is falling a visitation of the power of God? Should churches preach with billboards? Do modern day preachers still heal as it was in the days of old? Should people pay for prayers and miracles? We live in a crossroad of spirituality where people will follow anything and anyone because when a people have suffered for too long, they will drink with insatiable gullibility fairytales on fairylands.  Recruits.

There is nothing bad in using billboards to preach the gospel because preaching the gospel is the great commission Jesus gave the church before his ascension unto heaven (Mt 28:19-20). There is also nothing wrong with taking meritorious titles because the Bible approves us honoring people (Mt 21:22; Rom 12:10; 13:7). Act 1:6. However, Jesus did not come for an earthly kingdom that is why when the disciples said “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts1:6), Jesus instead sent them to establish a spiritual; kingdom (Acts 1:7-8). So Cameroon cannot become the property of God but he urges the people to live for Him. It is preposterous and presumptuous for any preacher to say "The 2011 elections are hidden in the blood of Jesus Christ and peace will reign in Cameroon in the name of the Lord."
Making a flashback in the Old Testament, one will quickly realize that there was not a single prophet (except the false prophet) was in agreement with the kings of their times. The prophets were there as the watchmen of Israel and so too they should be today. We see the same pattern in the New testament when John the Baptist is beheaded for rebuking Herod for marrying Herodias the brother- Philip’s wife and for all the evil he had done (Mt 14:3-12; Mk 6:17-29; Lk 3:19 ). Before John’s death, he cautioned his followers “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.” (Mt 11:12). This was spiritual violence.

Men who have been led by the Spirit to fight for the freedom of mankind have always sought peaceful resistance as we saw in the life of Gandhi (Satyagraha) and Martin Luther Jr (Civil Disobedience).
From Abram (17:3), Eliezer-Abraham’s servant (Gen 24:52), Moses and Aaron (Num 16:20-22), Joshua (7:6-7), the Israelites (I Kings 18:36), and Daniel (Dan 10:9-10), the people fell prostrating themselves before God. They did not fall backwards. They prostrated because of God’s awesomeness. God is revealing himself to them and the more he does that, the more they worship him. The disciples like Peter (Lk 5:8; ), One of the healed lepers (Lk 17:16), Mary sister of Lazarus (Jn 11:32), Jarius (Lk 8:41) and other Jews still under the influence of Judaism fell forward but in the New testament, People with unclean spirits (Mk 3;11) and sinners (Jn 18:6) fell backwards because “the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (I Jn 3:8).

Miracles Attract Crowds.
Yes, they do (Mk 1:28), and they were an integral part of Jesus’ ministry because “Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.”(Jn 4:48). God revealed to the Hebrews that “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” (Heb 13:8). If Jesus who made miracles yesteryears is the same we worship today, then it is normal for miracles to take place whenever the people gather to worship him. Nonetheless, there are guidelines to know about the miracles of Jesus.

This is very important to all of you reading. Whether people fell forward or backwards, there was an immediate spiritual change that was evidenced physically. Whether walking on water, stilling the storm, feeding the 4000 and 5000 men, the miracles were palpable and immediate.

When the Noble man sought Jesus to go and healed the son who was sick at home, Jesus told him to go away for his son was healed. At that same moment, the son was being healed (Jn 4: 46-52). When Jesus prayed for the man with unclean spirits in the synagogue, (Mk 1:23), Peter’s sick mother-in-law(Mk 1:29-34) and the leper (Mk 1:40-45), all got instantaneously well. Is that what the modern day preachers are doing? I have known barren women going to most of these churches and falling under the “slaying of the spirit” or whatever that means and hitherto are still childless. If anyone should fall in church, they should get up with an immediate transformation and physical dividends to show that a miracle or the power of God has touched them.

Jesus met a man with palsy, and he ordered him to pick his bed and walk. Immediately, the man began to walk (Mk 2:1-12). He was not trained to rewalk or walk, but he began walking. The 38 year cripple at the Jerusalem pool got his walking orders immediately as Jesus told him to pick his mat and walk (Mk Jn 5:1-15). The man with a withered arm was healed immediately he obeyed the command of Jesus (Lk 6:6-11).

Jesus brought back the centurion’s son to life (Lk 7:1-10), he brought back the son of the widow of Nain (Lk 7:11-16), encountering the procession of the dead man, he touched his bier and the man got up back immediately (Lk 11:14-26). When he called Lazarus from the dead, he walked out of his tomb after three days of being in the grave (Jn 11:1-46). That is how miracles of raising the dead took place and not this thing today where we say if we prayed and the man did not wake up; it means God wanted him to die. If God is going to call out a miracle, that miracle must happen because everything obeys the Lord. Jesus raised back to life the daughter of Jarius (Mark 5:21-43).

I have taken you to two groups of miracles, let me take you to other sets of miracles.

The man with unclean spirits (Mk 5:1-20), a dumb man possessed with a devil was healed instantaneously too (Mt 9:32-34; Mk 7:31-37), the possessed daughter of a woman is healed in one session (Mt. Mt 15:21-28). The man whose son had an evil spirit and was brought to Jesus was healed immediately (Mk 9:14-29). The man with dropsy in the house of the chief Pharisee was healed as Jesus laid his hands on him (Lk 14:1-6).

Two blind men are healed as they called Jesus out to heal them (Mt 9:27-31). The Blind man of Bethsaida brought to him was healed (Mk 8:22-28). Blind Bartimaeus was healed as Jesus told him”And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole.” (Mk 10:52). The man that was born blind was healed on the spot and he later testified that Jesus healed him (Jn 9:1-41).

Jesus replaced immediately the ear of Malchus that was cut off by Peter ,and it stuck for ever.
Jesus told the blind man, “Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.” (Jn 5:14), but it was not the same disease that will come back. Many people are healed in Jesus, and the same disease comes back again days, weeks or months after. That healing was not from God, for God does not start work He does not finish (Ph 1:6; Ps 138:8). He emphasized that in the parable of the builder (Lk 14:28-30).

Once the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, she was made hold (Mark 5:25-34; Matt 9:18-26; Luke 8:40-56). The woman with an 18 year old infirmity was healed instantaneously (Luke 13:10-17).

I will not close this portion without mentioning the disciple after the departure of Jesus. When the Holy Spirit came down on the day of Pentecost, there was the physical initial evidence of speaking in tongues. Peter told the man at the gate to rise up and walk. He helped him up, and the man rose and walked away (Acts 3:6-8). Peter prophesied on Sapphira, and it had seconds later (Acts 5: 9-10).

Buy A Miracle

I have watched the TV and heard announcement in churches of pastors and their churches announcing that people should pay entry fee for a prayer meeting, an evangelistic meeting or those who require you to pay before you obtain prayers. Those are all spirits of hirelings and ungodly behavior. Jesus ordered his disciples” Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” (Mt 10:8).

It is the duty of the church to make disciples of the world and to use any godly means possible to propagate the fulfillment of that commission. However, the converts are not to establish an earthly kingdom but a spiritual one. Falling forward is to worship God and backwards is when you have evil spirits. If someone fell down under the influence of the Holy Spirit, they must experience an immediate physical change in their health or welfare. If you had HIV and fell under the spirit but got up with the same HIV, then God did not touch you. You were under the influence of showmanship. If you were barren and fell and in 9 months or less time and cannot carry your own baby, then the Spirit of God did not touch you; it was the evil spirit or showmanship. If you were jobless and fell six months again and until today you are still jobless, then the Holy Spirit did not touch you; it was the devil or showmanship. Miracles are godly and possible until the coming of the Lord Jesus, but they are palpable and instantaneous. Miracles are different from healings in that, miracles are instantaneous while healing is gradual. Don’t you see those who were touched by Christ and what happened to them? Notwithstanding, “I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.” (2 Cor 11:4-5).

Until then, read the Bible and be wise!
