How do you know exactly what Jesus meant?

Has a man committed adultery already with a woman in his heart if he looks on her to lust after her? Has a woman sinned just by desiring to be rich? Wouldn’t James be contradicting Jesus since he says something different? Several times people have asked me “How do you come to know exactly what Jesus meant?” There are several interpretations to many bible passages that even the simplest and most straight forward always brings out at least two different interpretations. In this lesson this morning, I will present a summation by comparing two passages spoken by Jesus and James on how to arrive at an interpretive conclusion. There are things to consider in hermeneutics. For written material like our case, we have semantics, syntax, and morphology. In morphology, we do word study, context and etymology while thinking horizontally. After this, we sum it up in exposition, application before illustration. This is the science behind interpretation. So let us walk together so you know I am not making it up.

Step one: The meaning of the word lust in Matthew is different from the general word lust . How do we know that? The word lust in Ps 81:12 means stubborn. In Matthew 5:28 because it is preceded immediately by the adverb of manner (this word is used as an adverb only in two ways: adverb of manner and adverb of time), the word changes its meaning to “have a desire for, long for, to desire”. The Greek word there is /Epithymeō/. Now compare the word lust in Romans1:27 which is really what Matthew means. The Greek word there is /Orexis/ meaning “desire, longing, craving for, eager desire, lust, appetite.” There is a difference between present simple tense and infinitive tense. In Matthew then the word is used in present indicative to make a factual declaration while in James it is used in infinitive. In the former, the action taking place while in the latter, the action bears a future fulfillment.

Step Two: Here is where the Horizontal Thinking comes into play. Scripture must be used to interpret itself. Consequently, we look at what the Bible says elsewhere about lust. The next section will be James 1:14-15. If we interpret that Matthew 5:28 means to consume sin then we mean that the Bible in contradictory; thus fallible and errant. James says that lust must conceive and give birth to sin. That means the strong desire acted upon by imagination (lust after) is already sin.

The case of adultery evoked by Jesus could be taken out of context that could produce a wrong inference or poor semantics. Let us go back to Horizontal thinking.

What does the Bible say about adultery? True the Bible says if you marry a divorced woman you have committed adultery already. But that is if the fault is on the woman. Let us read Matthew 5:32

But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

If you divorce your wife for any other cause other than the fact that she was unfaithful, you force her to commit adultery because she will be breaking the covenant. The person who marries the woman who was wrongfully divorced is committing adultery too because he should not be in that relationship. Same thing in Matt 19:9. Mark 10:12 the responsibility is reversed for men to women. So if a woman wrongfully divorced her husband, she is committing adultery and also forcing the man to commit adultery. Yet, the bible authorizes digamy if there is abandonment (I Cor 7:15). If your spouse runs away, though there is no infidelity involved, you are free to remarry and there will not be any adultery because when they run away from the marriage, they abandon the marital bond which is a bond in blood sexually administered.

Therefore, to know exactly what Jesus meant, the reader must be ready to read, interpret the passage hermeneutically and think horizontally by looking at other passages of the Bible to see what the Bible says about the same topic. It will take time, but it is very efficient in putting the reader nearer or to the exact intent of God.

Until then God bless his word.

Manyu Does Not Need CDC; It Needs Roads!

The news that the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) will start a rubber mill plantation in Manyu comes to me like a melodrama. Manyu after the unitary constitution has become an enclave. It has been abandoned by the government with no roads, insufficient teachers in schools, no major infrastructure. Timber has been siphoned by Frank Biya and others leaving the bush naked. Time and again the government has dangled the post of ministers to its elites who have been contented to struggle for it as they backbite and stab each other on the back. Aren’t the Manyu people good to be prime ministers and president? How many balls has Paul Biya got that the Manyu man does not have? Why must the Manyu people be contented for him to rule that country for 28 years and still hoping to add seven more as if it is his plantation? Now he wants to kill our people with pollution from a useless plantation.

Perhaps Paul Biya and the elites are testing our patience and resolve. Manyu needs roads and not CDC plantation. You see, they want to take the Manyu people for slavery finally. The Manyu people have been enslaved from afar before, but now they must be in shackles and manacles of the CDC plantations. In addition, they want to kill your main cash-crop and impoverish you intoto so you and your children will be begging for food from the CDC manager. Where are the elites of Manyu? Where is the intelligentsia? Where will our kids go, and how will they survive? Even if we have the crops, how will they carry them to the market? They will tell you that when the plantation is coming that is when they will start to construct the roads. Let them construct the roads first and then follow with cassava, cocoa, palm kernel, and bush mango. We have our own cash-crops that are wanted in the world now. This is even the time for the government to encourage the planting of bush mango since it has been proven to fight obesity and is in high demand now in the US.

To the Manyu boys and girls, I call you not to sleep. Not at all! Rise up and tell the government of Paul Biya to go and go now. There are kids who refused to be born because he is still around. Please Biya go and let these kids come out of their mothers' wombs. Look at most of our schools, they don't have teachers. Our results are dropping yearly, and the names coming up with the best results even in our own land are no more our names. Oh land of the intelligent, to whom shall I bemoan such dearth? Only a selected few receive water. There is SNEC but not everyone with a meter receives water in Mamfe. There is never a week where there is electricity for continuously one week.

Some of you will be proud that Mamfe has been tarred. Good and fine but what does that avail to when there is no way to get out and come into Mamfe? Aren’t we really ashamed of ourselves? We have been following the same party for how many years, and all we get is a useless plantation? Perhaps the Obasinjom needs to come out to explain the oracle why we are intelligently stupid. I want to leave each and everyone today to their consciences. I want you all to know that anyone who will mortgage that division will never find rest and when things will change, we will fight hard to erase their names from the annals of our almanac. I want you to join me so that we can form a committee to debrief the people at home. We will carry a serious campaign from village to village to inform our people not to allow the government to fool them one more time. We will print leaflets and distribute to everyone.

Until then, may God bless the Manyu people.

Cameroon Police beating and terrorizing an opposition leader-Kah Walla

Africa is endowed with oil, diamonds, gold, mining, bauxite, manganese, cocoa, coffee, uranium, bodies of water for fishing, and fertile tropical forests that produce timber. Shouldn’t the land of plenty be plentiful to those who dwell therein? Doesn’t the Bible say our welfare shall depend on the land in which we dwell (Jer 29:7)? Here is where the modern church has failed. Christianity cannot function in a vacuum; it works only on people. Consequently, for Christianity to be meaningful, we must apply the tenets on human beings and the society. Such was the gospel of the Old Testament where the prophets will scold the leaders for leading the country into dearth. Seeing today the same depravity, instead the modern preachers pass baskets or hats around for the largesse of listeners. While that is encouraged in the bible to give to the poor or needy (Ex 23:6; Proverbs 11:24, 19:17, 28:27; Matthew 25:31-46; Luke 14:12-14; James 2:6), the Lord has given the preachers the responsibility of watchmen to warn the wicked; including the leaders (Ezk. 33:7, 3:18; Hab 2:1).

For how long are we going to be begging to give to people? For how long will the church flatter the parishioners that all is well and everything is fine? For how long will the church flatter the churchgoers that their rewards are in heaven? Wouldn’t and shouldn’t there be a foretaste of that heavenly felicity while we are here on earth?

Looking at the scripture, the prophets of old were in constant conflict with their leaders probing them to do good and rebuking them when they went astray. It is written “The LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers” (2 Kings 17:13). While they made miracles to solve certain situations, they were cognizant that they will and could not be everywhere to make those same miracles. Even when they were there, the same miracles do not always replicate themselves, so they called on the pharaoh, king or emperor to treat the people right.

Christian minister, the church and the Christian cannot suffer all their lives only to wait for heavenly blessings. Jesus came that we may have life and have life abundantly (Jn 10:10). Most of these countries are blessed with wealth to go around, but a few have decided to hoard 90% of it to satisfy their egoism. Ministers should call out their governments so as to create a national consciousness for them to manage properly their resources because God requires justice, mercy and humility (Micah 6:8).

Hellas, churches are afraid that if they call out the governments, they will be shut down. So whose church is it then; that of God or that of man? If God’s then let Him defend himself, for He does not need the help of mere mortals. They should never hold their peace (Is 62:1) by crying aloud to show them their transgression and sins (Is 58:1). Sadly “His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber” (Is 56:10). Instead of holding the government accountable, the churches are more concerned with extorting the Christians with false prosperity preaching. Indeed some Christians even seem like they have been bewitched. They fall down year in year out, but their condition is still the same. They fall and tumble but their barrenness gazes at them in the night. God will never visit a person without leaving you with an everlasting change.

Are you happy the way other people are suffering all over the world? Do you think that is really the gospel? Or perhaps you believe that Jesus came only for the soul. If the body does not eat, the mind will not have the strength to receive the word for the soul to get regenerated. The soul cannot function in the absence of our carcass-the body. Therefore, the apostle Paul reiterates the importance of the body and cautions the need for physical exercise.

My people, all those dictators that have kept their people under bondage should be the problem and prime preaching of the church and the Christians. While the Bible adjures the Christians to respect the law and authority, it admonishes them to rebuke evil. The blessings of nations belong to all God’s creatures and not to a selected few, so a selected few who depauperate the rest with their bingeing should be called to order! Preachers, why are you leaving your governments to do an undo with the resources of your countries? You must watch, and remember that you have been seized to warn every one night and day with tears. Go ahead and warn them now!

Until then, God has called preachers to bold preaching and not timidity!

Book Review: Compassionate Care: Healing for The Soul with HIV/AIDS.

Dr Lee Ann B. Marino. Compassionate Care: Healing for The Soul with HIV/AIDS. Joshua Tree Publishing: La Vergne, Tennessee. 2010.

It is a 143 page book lucidly and fluidly written to the comprehension of the medical laity. Compassion Care (CC) is divided into 5 parts with some necessary appendixes like a glossary, healing centers, references and an abridged biography of the author. The book is different from most other books written on this subject because it is the first of its kind that attempts to trace the source, states the symptoms(p. 7) and progression (p. 7-9)manifestation, proposes a cure and then suggests the position and responsibility of the church vis a vis the carriers or those whose beloveds are HIV positive. Her challenge in the fifth chapter to the church about getting directly involved against HIV makes the book very timely and necessary for both churched and unchurched on the surface of the earth.

In many churches and denominations, the usual call is for individuals to abstain from sex as a prevention of HIV/AIDS. Yet considering that the human nature is fallible, and will not be able to abstain, it is expedient for them to be given ample information of what HIV/AIDS is all about. With sustained research and biblical exposition, Dr Ann Lee Marino serves the world in a single book. She weaves through the pages; converting even the most complex theories about HIV/AIDS into simple and concrete undertakings.

She starts by reemphasizing the basic truisms about HIV/AIDS like the two types HIV-1 and HIV-2, and the fact that HIV has no known cure. She also confirms that that there are at least 5 ways that individuals can contract the disease (p. 5-6).

Marino affirms “the first, and most accepted school of thought, states HIV/AIDS originated with the Rhesus Monkeys in Africa” (p. 11). She disputes the second school of thought that theorizes “the disease passed to humans from infected chimpanzees by ingesting infected meat or direct blood contact with them (i.e., by through a bite or scratch)”. The third school claims it was a biological or germ warfare, and the fourth school ascribes it to Polio vaccine. The fifth school claims it is some sort of nutritional deficiencies, and the sixth school “teaches HIV/AIDS does not exit at all.

Like many other western authors, she stumbles on the origin and history of HIV/AIDS (p. 11-16). There are many questions that logic will fault even the origin of the first school of thought and rather align with the third school of thought. The theory that HIV/AIDS could be zoonotic is scientifically weak because it will mean there must be animals in that area that transmitted the disease. Then most animals in that area would have been affected. Four years ago I stated that “No one contests the fact that HIV destroys the immune system and that any disease at this hour could kill you. However, the mode of transmission: Mosquitoes to Human challenges the very ethos of HIV breeding ground. In other words; we are saying that not only humans are breeding grounds for HIV.” In the same article I said “Researchers are the ones who said HIV means Human Immunodeficiency Virus. So the quick question is does it live in animals and insects? Then it would be Animo Immuno Deficiency Virus. How long does that virus live in a non breeding surface to be able to be transmitted into another human?”

Notwithstanding, whether HIV/AIDS comes from animals in Africa or Biological Warfare from an American laboratory, it is certain that HIV/AIDS is real and it does kill. Dr Marino has not only raised the awareness, but she has emphasized the urgency the church needs to make the gospel of Jesus-love your neighbor as yourself real as they embrace those with HIV and those who will (P. 35-38). Isn’t it absurd and even ungodly that the church still stigmatizes HIV/AIDS victims? Should carriers of HIV/AIDS still be facing more problems from the church more than those with cancer or other sexually transmissible diseases? Why does the church refuse to bless a wedding when one partner or both are HIV positive, but they can do that with cancer patients? Isn’t both all terminal diseases? No matter whatever terminal diseases an individual faces, he or she should not be stigmatized. Consequently, Dr Marino goes the extra length to unravel all the necessary support that may be available to churches to support the HIV patients. Jesus said "you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." If churches have the information that is in this book, they will save many lives as pages 65-101 elaborate on that. Looking at the information in this book, I will encourage everyone to get a copy and especially for churches to distribute to their Christians.

Until then, may the church and Christians be the lighthouses of compassion to the HIV/AIDS Patients.

Video of the Week

For 249 days Belgium has no government, but the EU does  not fight to give them one; they are crossing oceans and bushes to go and institute a government in  Ivory Coast. Please don't touch that country anymore! Africa has seen too many wars and bloodbaths to watch another one in Ivory Coast. Since the EU and US love Quattara so much so that they want to impose him as the president of Ivory Coast, they should make him the president of Belgium because the people of Ivory Coast have spat him out like a child spits out nivaquine.

Natalie Munroe: Freedom Of Speech Muzzled By Absentee Parents.

A teacher was suspended with pay this week for writing her personal blog about students. Are we still living in the country of the free and land of the brave? Sooner or later Americans are crossing oceans to go and teach others on freedom of speech. Teacher, teach thyself! American schools are in big trouble! Let me tell you guys some personal stories about our little angels. I tell you guys everyday that we are in an epoch called “childrenism” where children rule. Someday in future it will be “animalism” where your cat will be head of household or family head. The parents have failed and must take care of their kids. I know you will make some noise after all, he that is crying and he that is laughing are all guilty of making noise. Now enjoy and make some noise!

One day a female teacher was leading her students to the cafeteria, and one of them asked to use the restroom. After entering, the student quickly bolted back out and asked the teacher “MS. (so and so), do you want to see me jack up.” I was standing between the door of the cafeteria and the restroom door. Then the teacher exclaimed “no, he didn't.” I asked her what happened, and she asked me what the young man said. I repeated it to her. I did not know what jack up meant.  Being from Africa, I thought perhaps it was a form of exercise that he wanted to do, so I was wondering why she was angry. Methought it was just the habitual female histrionics where they always use a grenade to kill a cockroach. She explained to me that it means masturbation. I made a quick sign of the cross and said "Lord have mercy! These kids will come and rape someone here one day in broad day light." She reported the student to the administrators, and they asked her to write a report. I was shocked to hear that nothing happened to the student.

Another day a student wrote a wooden sign and placed it in front of her desk. The sign read “fuck me. Fuck my life y'all.” Everytime I taught and looked at her, she showed me the sign that read “fuck me”. I will laugh, but the other students did not know why I kept laughing hard. She made me lose my thought each time I read that sign, so I asked her to step outside. She refused, and I called the administrators. One of them came, and she said that she did not have a sign. Immediately as she went back to class, she removed her sign that she had passed to her friends and placed it back in front of her. So I just said to myself, “don't be in a haste; you will have plenty of customers.” I decided to ignore her and her sign and continued my job.

Another one always sang this song to me,

Nigger mother fucker, 3X

Nigger nigger mother fucker 2X

What you gonna do?

The administrators sent him to ISS for one day where he went and slept all day long. I actually liked the song because it was original. It meant at least he had one thing that he knew how to do-write music to say the least. I gave him a dollar for his creativity.

In one school, the principal said since kids do no more do homework, so the teachers should stop giving homework. Would that shock you that for seven years that school had never made the AYP, but surprisingly their principal was one time the state principal of the year? How? Isn't our society extoling mediocrity now?

So why are people crucifying the poor woman for nothing?America is shying away from the truth. The teacher did nothing wrong! If you look at things well; most parents who are angry about her admonishments are absentee parents who feel indicted for absentee parenting when the kids are called to responsibility. They are setting on time bombs. Just compare the education the kids receive today and what was yesteryears, and you will see that educational standards have been muddled up in excessive freedom. Isn't she covered too by the First Amendment?

Until then, give the woman's job back.

Biya Must Go: A Calll to Cameroon Opposition.

Dear Compatriots,

The drumbeats of change have echoed from Tunisa to Egypt, and the world is dancing to it. The crescendo is increasing towards Cameroon and against Biya as the days go by because Cameroonians bear the brunt of the shackles of dictatorship and corruption. The whirlpool of change and the wind pool of development are blowing everywhere, fanned by those who are tired of living because the government has sapped away every hope from their veins. Even unborn kids in Cameroon want Biya and his corrupt system to go before they are born, and to those who live, he has become a nightmare. As individuals, we cannot but as a throng we produce a mysterious power that no dictator can resist no matter how powerful he or she is.

However, from the time of Gandhi with satyagraha, Martin Luther King Jr with Civil Disobedience, and Mandela's Grassroots Demonstrations, many have realized that there is a weapon dictators cannot resist. That is called peaceful demonstration. Ben Ali of Tunisia resisted for one week, and the mighty Mubarak resisted for a fortnight and four days. But all like overripe mangoes, fell at the timing of God and the persistence of the people.

There are discouragement experts telling you that Cameroonians cannot drive away Biya because they are afraid to face Biya's repressive machine. You and I know that we can if we come together. As usual, Cameroon has always shown that it is the epitome of resistance as we are aware of the heavy defeat the Germans received during the Mpaw Manku Wars and the French received from UPC because they fought as one. In Tunisia and Egypt, the opposition parties kept away their differences and formed a common formidable front that not even the military saw the need to resist. In Egypt, it was even a miraculous marriage for convenience to liquidate their dictator. The Muslim Brotherhood joined all the other opposition parties, and they accepted her for the need to drive Mubarak.

Cameroon Opposition, it is a time for you all to come together; join hands, take away the party identity for a common cause. Each party has tried in their own way, but they have never succeeded. In this time that even nature has set the pedestals for the opposition to conquer, there will not be any excuse if we do not come together. History will judge each and everyone of us cruelly. How do you want to be remembered: as the one who destroyed the opposition, or the one who oiled the wheels of the human train that carried Biya out of office? If you have a conscience, I entreat you to use it now. It is better to live a day like a lion than to live a thousand years as unemancipated slaves: yes, for slaves we are these 30 years of tyranny with a system with  an almost certainly irredeemable kleptocratic notoriety.

Aren't we tired of living like Biya's roaches? Tell your brothers and sisters, look not unto death for all will die; look unto the rewards that you will get by sacrificing your all for the liberation of your fatherland. Together come out and march.

Until then, join hands and redeem Cameroon.

The Congressmen and Others Need Polygamy.

The other day, I heard that a congressman has resigned for sending a shirtless picture to a woman on Craiglist. I will not be the first to cast the first stone, for many of us have done that in our attempt to win the love of the woman we want to share our lives with for life. In addition, the Bible does not include the upper body as part of nakedness. Nudity starts and ends with genitals! His is only bad because he is married and not single; else I don’t see the fuse about it. If a man is single and ready to mingle, he should send pictures if that will improve his chances, I guess. Whatever may be the case and reason of his gaffe, it is clear that America is on a transition.

The country shifted from Male Chauvinism (men were leading) to Feminism (women were commanding households). Now it is "Childrenism" as children are the ones commanding. Tomorrow it will be "Animalism" where your little dog will be the one to tell you what to do. As everyone is trying to live by instinct, so we have legalized the LGTC while escheating one group-polygamous community. The latter is the solution to America’s desire to legally keep multiple partners and experience lebensfreude in marriage.

Doesn’t the Bible back polygamy enough? So why are Americans dragging their feet from approving it? That "married but in an open relationship" is called polygamy. It means you are free to have many wives and husbands if she cares. Polygamy is the antidote for divorce and unfaithfulness that plagues our country. More so, aren't they allowed to express themselves as the LGTC, if it is a lifestyle?

Americans need those rights to marry as many women or men as they want. If marrying many women will shorten one's life, then so be it. Don't some people choose euthanasia to die? Let polygamy be their own euthanasia. The beauty of having many cars is that if one car is troubling you, you can just use the other car until the former cools down it tantrums. That way when one car is working properly, you consider it as grace and not an inheritance. Furthermore, if a new car breaks down, one would understand that it is not habitual, but it is more stressful when a car with very high milage is breaking down at will for no reason; even when not taken on a long distance.

As I flashback, I cannot count how many divorces occur in polygamous homes, but surely you know many monogamous homes that have divorced. They are experiencing a familyquake; up to 70% even amongst Christians: "the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world". African and Latin American women will tell you that when salt is not good enough in food, one should add maggi. A second wife is the maggi that the Congress men would put into their relationships. The Congress women don't have any need for it because you don't hear that happening. In addition, the Bible does not give room for polyandry.
The people of Utah and many other parts of the country have tried polygamy, and they know it is good for a stable family. In our quest for moral and ethical sexual variety, God has provided humanity the key in polygamy. Polygamy is a legal union and not a cheating and pretentious union. Indeed polygamy is not the answer to infidelity; nevertheless, if they ask you to choose between Lucifer and his cousin, it would be fair for your own good to select the cousin, for he will be a lesser evil. If the congressman was permitted to marry more than one wife, he should not be losing his job today because no cock pins a hen down without a dance. Sending pictures could and is more than the dance of the cock. That is one of the ways he could easily pin the hen down since the hens these days want to see their men strong.
America, I have found your antidote for infidelity and unhappy marriages. It is called polygamy. Polygamous societies have very stable, lasting and joyful marriages. I am not saying perfect, but it is not like the quinine marriages we are experiencing today. Married today but divorce tomorrow will no more be our portion! It will also help these single women who are always angry and unhappy. Every man should be permitted to marry at least 5 wives or since we like to set numbers we could limit it to seven. That is the perfect number!

Until then, let us try polygamy as a society!

God Doesn't Come Cheap In Cameroon

My attention was drawn to the title of an article that was sent to our Camnet forum on the 5th of February 2011. I was a bit reluctant to comment because I know the said preacher[Note:1]. Notwithstanding, since it concerns Christendom in general, it is important I cross-examine some errant behaviors of modern day preachers underlined in the article. Our sole weapon will be on biblical verses and godly syllogism. Is falling a visitation of the power of God? Should churches preach with billboards? Do modern day preachers still heal as it was in the days of old? Should people pay for prayers and miracles? We live in a crossroad of spirituality where people will follow anything and anyone because when a people have suffered for too long, they will drink with insatiable gullibility fairytales on fairylands.  Recruits.

There is nothing bad in using billboards to preach the gospel because preaching the gospel is the great commission Jesus gave the church before his ascension unto heaven (Mt 28:19-20). There is also nothing wrong with taking meritorious titles because the Bible approves us honoring people (Mt 21:22; Rom 12:10; 13:7). Act 1:6. However, Jesus did not come for an earthly kingdom that is why when the disciples said “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts1:6), Jesus instead sent them to establish a spiritual; kingdom (Acts 1:7-8). So Cameroon cannot become the property of God but he urges the people to live for Him. It is preposterous and presumptuous for any preacher to say "The 2011 elections are hidden in the blood of Jesus Christ and peace will reign in Cameroon in the name of the Lord."
Making a flashback in the Old Testament, one will quickly realize that there was not a single prophet (except the false prophet) was in agreement with the kings of their times. The prophets were there as the watchmen of Israel and so too they should be today. We see the same pattern in the New testament when John the Baptist is beheaded for rebuking Herod for marrying Herodias the brother- Philip’s wife and for all the evil he had done (Mt 14:3-12; Mk 6:17-29; Lk 3:19 ). Before John’s death, he cautioned his followers “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.” (Mt 11:12). This was spiritual violence.

Men who have been led by the Spirit to fight for the freedom of mankind have always sought peaceful resistance as we saw in the life of Gandhi (Satyagraha) and Martin Luther Jr (Civil Disobedience).
From Abram (17:3), Eliezer-Abraham’s servant (Gen 24:52), Moses and Aaron (Num 16:20-22), Joshua (7:6-7), the Israelites (I Kings 18:36), and Daniel (Dan 10:9-10), the people fell prostrating themselves before God. They did not fall backwards. They prostrated because of God’s awesomeness. God is revealing himself to them and the more he does that, the more they worship him. The disciples like Peter (Lk 5:8; ), One of the healed lepers (Lk 17:16), Mary sister of Lazarus (Jn 11:32), Jarius (Lk 8:41) and other Jews still under the influence of Judaism fell forward but in the New testament, People with unclean spirits (Mk 3;11) and sinners (Jn 18:6) fell backwards because “the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (I Jn 3:8).

Miracles Attract Crowds.
Yes, they do (Mk 1:28), and they were an integral part of Jesus’ ministry because “Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.”(Jn 4:48). God revealed to the Hebrews that “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” (Heb 13:8). If Jesus who made miracles yesteryears is the same we worship today, then it is normal for miracles to take place whenever the people gather to worship him. Nonetheless, there are guidelines to know about the miracles of Jesus.

This is very important to all of you reading. Whether people fell forward or backwards, there was an immediate spiritual change that was evidenced physically. Whether walking on water, stilling the storm, feeding the 4000 and 5000 men, the miracles were palpable and immediate.

When the Noble man sought Jesus to go and healed the son who was sick at home, Jesus told him to go away for his son was healed. At that same moment, the son was being healed (Jn 4: 46-52). When Jesus prayed for the man with unclean spirits in the synagogue, (Mk 1:23), Peter’s sick mother-in-law(Mk 1:29-34) and the leper (Mk 1:40-45), all got instantaneously well. Is that what the modern day preachers are doing? I have known barren women going to most of these churches and falling under the “slaying of the spirit” or whatever that means and hitherto are still childless. If anyone should fall in church, they should get up with an immediate transformation and physical dividends to show that a miracle or the power of God has touched them.

Jesus met a man with palsy, and he ordered him to pick his bed and walk. Immediately, the man began to walk (Mk 2:1-12). He was not trained to rewalk or walk, but he began walking. The 38 year cripple at the Jerusalem pool got his walking orders immediately as Jesus told him to pick his mat and walk (Mk Jn 5:1-15). The man with a withered arm was healed immediately he obeyed the command of Jesus (Lk 6:6-11).

Jesus brought back the centurion’s son to life (Lk 7:1-10), he brought back the son of the widow of Nain (Lk 7:11-16), encountering the procession of the dead man, he touched his bier and the man got up back immediately (Lk 11:14-26). When he called Lazarus from the dead, he walked out of his tomb after three days of being in the grave (Jn 11:1-46). That is how miracles of raising the dead took place and not this thing today where we say if we prayed and the man did not wake up; it means God wanted him to die. If God is going to call out a miracle, that miracle must happen because everything obeys the Lord. Jesus raised back to life the daughter of Jarius (Mark 5:21-43).

I have taken you to two groups of miracles, let me take you to other sets of miracles.

The man with unclean spirits (Mk 5:1-20), a dumb man possessed with a devil was healed instantaneously too (Mt 9:32-34; Mk 7:31-37), the possessed daughter of a woman is healed in one session (Mt. Mt 15:21-28). The man whose son had an evil spirit and was brought to Jesus was healed immediately (Mk 9:14-29). The man with dropsy in the house of the chief Pharisee was healed as Jesus laid his hands on him (Lk 14:1-6).

Two blind men are healed as they called Jesus out to heal them (Mt 9:27-31). The Blind man of Bethsaida brought to him was healed (Mk 8:22-28). Blind Bartimaeus was healed as Jesus told him”And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole.” (Mk 10:52). The man that was born blind was healed on the spot and he later testified that Jesus healed him (Jn 9:1-41).

Jesus replaced immediately the ear of Malchus that was cut off by Peter ,and it stuck for ever.
Jesus told the blind man, “Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.” (Jn 5:14), but it was not the same disease that will come back. Many people are healed in Jesus, and the same disease comes back again days, weeks or months after. That healing was not from God, for God does not start work He does not finish (Ph 1:6; Ps 138:8). He emphasized that in the parable of the builder (Lk 14:28-30).

Once the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, she was made hold (Mark 5:25-34; Matt 9:18-26; Luke 8:40-56). The woman with an 18 year old infirmity was healed instantaneously (Luke 13:10-17).

I will not close this portion without mentioning the disciple after the departure of Jesus. When the Holy Spirit came down on the day of Pentecost, there was the physical initial evidence of speaking in tongues. Peter told the man at the gate to rise up and walk. He helped him up, and the man rose and walked away (Acts 3:6-8). Peter prophesied on Sapphira, and it had seconds later (Acts 5: 9-10).

Buy A Miracle

I have watched the TV and heard announcement in churches of pastors and their churches announcing that people should pay entry fee for a prayer meeting, an evangelistic meeting or those who require you to pay before you obtain prayers. Those are all spirits of hirelings and ungodly behavior. Jesus ordered his disciples” Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” (Mt 10:8).

It is the duty of the church to make disciples of the world and to use any godly means possible to propagate the fulfillment of that commission. However, the converts are not to establish an earthly kingdom but a spiritual one. Falling forward is to worship God and backwards is when you have evil spirits. If someone fell down under the influence of the Holy Spirit, they must experience an immediate physical change in their health or welfare. If you had HIV and fell under the spirit but got up with the same HIV, then God did not touch you. You were under the influence of showmanship. If you were barren and fell and in 9 months or less time and cannot carry your own baby, then the Spirit of God did not touch you; it was the evil spirit or showmanship. If you were jobless and fell six months again and until today you are still jobless, then the Holy Spirit did not touch you; it was the devil or showmanship. Miracles are godly and possible until the coming of the Lord Jesus, but they are palpable and instantaneous. Miracles are different from healings in that, miracles are instantaneous while healing is gradual. Don’t you see those who were touched by Christ and what happened to them? Notwithstanding, “I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.” (2 Cor 11:4-5).

Until then, read the Bible and be wise!

Tales of Eat and Run.

When I was in secondary school, an incident occurred with my mom. My mother was a petty trader who sold bushmeat pepper soup by the road side in Ancienne Gare Routière in Quartier Yabbasi-Douala. She was popularly known as Mami Anna.

There was a man who usually comes and eats and then runs away. When he arrived on that day, my sisters told me to place my eyes on him. I did. I asked him to pay before eating, but he said he would pay after eating. After he ate, he got up to go, and I told my mother. My mother told the other customers. He was detained by the other customers and passersby. Jungle justice at best! A passerby heard about the commotion. He asked my mother what the man did. The people said “he eats from this widow and refuses to pay.” So the passerby paid the money and asked the people to hand the man to him. Immediately as they handed the man to him, he began beating the man until blood was gushing out of his mouth, and nostrils.

My mother had to go and give back the passerby's money, but he refused to take it. My mother threw the money on the floor saying “ for God’s sake, it is not because of food that you will beat this man like this. Don‘t kill this man here and put us into trouble” . The populace was telling my mother “go away woman, he has paid you. Let him deal with him the way he deems fit.” If the police had not come, they would have killed that guy. So people should beware where they eat and run.

Another time was in 1991. I remember in Yaoundé seeing two young girls that we could call “ATM Drainers” or “Coffee Bang Feng” (coffee is ripe here) paraded naked in front of a restaurant because they ate and did not have money to pay. They came with a “Guyman” boyfriend who allowed them to pass their orders. One of them has been making the young man to spend and spend without letting him see the pinhole. He knew that the girl was merely using him up. Each time he invited her out to eat, she will bring her friends.

So he invited them to the restaurant where he allowed them to pass their orders as usual. They ate and drank like people who were leaving town. After some time, the man absconded and left abandoned them there at the restaurant. They were told to wash plates if they did not have money to pay, but they refused. The restaurant owner seized their clothes and sold them to a customer leaving them naked in front of the restaurant. After about two hours, the customer who bought the clothes came and gave them back their clothes. Then he asked them, “Vous allez venir encore manger ici sans payer? Voila leurs feses; espèce des bordelles”. If it was today with electronic cameras, it would have been all over the net.
Until then, beware where you eat and run away.
