However, the bible says that when someone dies, the living should take that to heart (Eccl 7:2). Let me refresh your memories on the circumstances surrounding his imprisonment. Edmund Eno has been given 25 years maximum and to serve 12 years for the shooting death of Oscar Agbor. When Edmund found out that Oscar was committing adultery with his wife, he decided to kill him.
This death divided the Manyu community in Atlanta for some time, and now that the verdict is finally out yesterday, I have decided to revisit the case after one of our sisters posted the judgment. Don’t our people say if a child does not find out what killed his father, that same thing will kill him too? We must learn lessons so that these same things do not repeat themselves in our community. The truth about it is that, if a goat refuses the leash of the owner, it will be tied in the market square by the council. That means, if you refuse to put your life in order, the society will put it in order for you in their own way and in public.
There are four lessons we learn from this incident. The first is that sleeping with someone’s wife or husband may cause you death. The second is that you will ruin your life if you kill anyone whether they sleep with your wife or husband. The third is that, the community lost two prospective and promising young people. The fourth is that, death is the end of all men and the living should take it to heart.
This is how we can solve the problems and prevent them from happening. You know prevention is better than cure. We should not condone adultery, for it is a very selfish and wicked behavior that is ingraining as a habit into most cultures.
When one speaks against adultery, people always say that is their private lives. No, it is not! The cock that crows belongs to the household, but its crows belong to the community. Some of your bad behaviors affect the community, and so must be addressed. If you are not ready to be faithful in a relationship then don’t get married. Yes, don’t get married. Marriage is a covenant, and it is for faithful people. Hear me well; faithful people!
Our communities should expose and rebuke openly adulterers, and meetings should take appropriate actions to discipline them by fining them a fee like a goat or a cow.
When I was growing up, people paid a fine for adultery. Why are we abandoning the culture in which we grew up? What has changed today that adultery seems very normal; and private? What is private about it, or is it the Husband and wife snatchers who parade the streets and brag about their prowess? To steal someone else's property is no more your private business; it is public business. Are your two ears opened? Hahahahhaa. I mean; that is public business.
Secondly, people should groom patience. It is not because someone is sleeping with your wife or husband that you should kill them. Both human and divine laws give you the privilege to sever the relationship. The Bible permits you to divorce if you do not want to forgive your spouse. For God’s sake, don’t kill anyone for sleeping with your wife or husband; go to court and divorce them. There will always be someone for you.
Until then, let the community learn from this.
