Does the Bible Accept Divorce? Yes, It Does!

The debate whether the Bible accepts divorce or not seems eternal and with a lot of ambiguity that every breakup seems a divorce. Casey Aldridge was sleeping with Kelly Dawson when his fiancée: Jamie Lynn was pregnant . These two were living in fornication but not adultery because they were not married when they were having sex.

The word fornication (Mt 19:6) there stands for illicit sex. Thus, fornication encompasses adultery, fornication, bestiality, rape and others. The only chance that some have given for remarriage is if a spouse dies. Yet the question usually is: should two unhappy people remain together until one person dies”. Though it is unbiblical, at times one could be tempted to select divorce over desperate reactions like those of Francine Hughes and Mary Wrinkler .

Since there is no example or prescription to divorce if a marriage turns physically abusive, it is expedient to stay within the known reasons. The human law was given to protect society. Thus, one should exploit the provisions of the law, if they are abused. Perhaps physically abusive individuals could easily be converted to doves as they are made to see their evil with love rather than involving the law because they console themselves that they have already paid for their sins by serving their sentence. Furthermore, James adjures the faithful to cast their burdens unto Jesus who cares for all (I Pet 5:7).

Some have argued that the Bible approves divorce only in case of fornication (Mt 5: 32; 19:9) because If blood is the main requirement in a covenant, sex is the one in a marital relationship. When anyone commits adultery, they destroy their own soul (Prov 6:32). The havoc the sledge hammer does to the bottle cork is the same adultery and sin in general do to the soul.

In 1976, Washington Post revealed that Wayne Hays, though married at the time had hired a mistress: Elizabeth Rays to serve as his secretary. After those allegations, there was no secret that adultery had destroyed his first marriage of 38 years.

The people of ancient times to solve the problem of adultery created the Bill of Divorcement (Jer. 3:8). Ab initio divorce was not a recommendation to solve adultery, but Moses introduced it (Mk 10:4), and Jesus explains that it is due to the hardiness of the people’s hearts. God initially wanted a man and a woman to marry and live together till the end of the world (Gen 2:24). Despite this, adultery was not placed in a higher pedestal to other sins. So why can’t people forgive adultery? The reason why Jesus accepted fornication as grounds for divorce was because adultery temporarily severs the covenant (marriage) and kills the covenantee.

Abandonment is one of the reasons why a spouse is permitted to divorce (I Cor 7:14-15) because by abandoning your post you break the bond that existed via sex, and thus, you are considered dead (Rom 7:1-3). Since a covenant requires two living beings, then the one who is alive is permitted to look for another partner for a new covenant.

Marriage is a means to avoid fornication (I Cor. 7:1-2). God tells Hosea a prophet to marry Gomer (a prostitute) and then he warns him that she will be unfaithful to him (Hos 1:2). Gomer ran away but God saddled Hosea to go and redeem his adulterous wife (Hosea 3: 1-3). Note well; he does not talk here of divorce because marriage is a covenant and it is not broken as far as both covenantees are still alive.

A covenant is concomitant with the feelings of our souls. Palmer Robertson says: “a covenant is bond in blood sovereignly administered"1. If blood is the main requirement in a salvation covenant, sex is the one in a marital relationship, and a covenant requires two living beings (Rom 7: 1-3) because God is a God of the living and not of the dead (Mt 22:32). Marriage is a covenant registered before God and must be upheld unfailingly. It is that established bond that binds the two mates as soulmates despite their shortcomings.

Therefore, while we don’t disagree that the Bible is against digamy (Mt 19:4-9), however, we posit that is when the fault is on the quitter (I Cor 7: 10-11). If the other person leaves, the one who has not is no more under the covenant (I Cor 7:15). A woman is bound by her husband as long as he is alive (Rom 7: 2-3) because a covenant is for the living (Mt 22:32).

Nevertheless, when someone quits a covenant, it is synonymous to them being dead. So while we do not know who divorced who, we will either absolve all or impute righteousness on the other who remarries for benefit of doubt. But they themselves know if they are committing digamy or not. Furthermore, while digamy is a sin like just any other sin, it is not an unforgivable sin. While I adjure people from sinning, I acknowledge that God can still forgive their sins and throw those sins at the bottom of the sea (Mic 7:19).

Until then, the Bible is not point blank against divorce.

What Obese People Don't Want To Hear!

Warning! Disturbing Images Of Morbidly Obese People, Pets & Animals - Click here for the funniest movie of the week

There is an outcry about weight loss in the US that has turned to a comedy of farce rather than tears of distress. Even the children are now obese . The TV and internet are inundated with weight loss advertisements. The singsong in the streets today is “I want to lose weight”. Some even confuse the word lose with loose.

Let me start by differentiating the words /loose/ and /lose/. Both words are not even similar. They differ in orthoepy, orthography and semantics. So I wonder why people even mix them up. The word “loose” pronounced /lu:s/ means to unfasten while the word “lose” pronounced /lu:z/ means to be unable to keep or retain something. More importantly, the last phonemes /s/ and /z/ for loose and lose respectively make the final distinction. So the last word lose is what you mean when you are referring to not being able to keep your weight or shedding some pounds. I want to lose weight and not I want to loose weight. Not still clear? Sorry, English is my third language!

Just of recent I read that a mayor wants to ban sodas in his city to control obesity . In other words, the state will be controlling people’s personal habits and preferences. Indeed the government owes part of the blame for allowing food industries to market any type of junk to people. Isn’t the government there to protect people? But then at the same time if the government tries to intervene and regulate it, people start invoking the Bill of Rights. What a comedy of farce!
I think the government should allow people to eat and drink what they like, but if they grow obese they should pay the price. If you are smoking or doing illegal drugs your insurance is higher. Why is it not the same thing with obese people? Why should a responsible person pay for the poor judgment of the irresponsible?

Some people argue that people are obese sometimes because they are poor and can only afford for cheap food. "So why not try to distribute wealth" some will ask. Immediately people will wield placards that the government is taking them to socialism. What a comedy of farce!

Suffer me say that there is cheap food that is also very healthy. It is just Lazy habits that are leading people to fast food. It is no pride nor does it show good living or responsible stewardship to be running to the fast-food restaurants daily. Why the desserts at every meal? All these sweets are killing us. Now the thing is taking the third world countries by storm because many think that fast food is good living.

I hear some people say they grow fat because they cook almost every weekend during ceremonies. Comedy of farce! The southern states are leading in obesity. They claim that they build better families because each time they have a family gathering they have to eat. Yet the problem is not the eating but eating the bad stuff or over indulging oneself. I eat everything. When some see others exercising or talking about exercise, they say he or she is an exercise freak. So how would you lose weight easily without exercising? Another excuse I hear again down south is that people are obese because of the cuisine; they fry a lot. But again who forces them to fry though. Even there, not everyone fries.

It is no secret that healthy food could make you really fat. If you decide to eat too much of vegetables and acquire more calories than you can burn, you will definitely grow fat. At times, when you become overweight, your waist becomes bigger than your hips and this increases your chances of having diabetes. The simple exercise of twisting the waist could do the magic.

I am conscious that the more you try to encourage fat people to cut down the more you discourage them because it sounds to them like you are mocking them. So they get angry and eat more. Oh well, good for them! They should keep up the good work!

Sometimes being overweight may cause you to lose your self esteem that losing weight doesn’t mean a thing to you anymore. But who should care for you more than yourself? It is not what you eat that makes you overweight anyway but how much you eat. If the government could determine the drinking age why should the government not determine our eating habits if it will plunge the economy into tatters. An unhealthy people will bring in low returns.

Most obese people had to go on welfare because of back and knee complications. Those on welfare use government subsidies for junk food in cans. The government should force those on welfare to register in a gym for $35 a month where their participation is required or the welfare suspended.

Some people say they are Obese and happy. How would you be happy with all the complications that accompany obesity though?

It is expedient to acknowledge that some people who are fat suffer from some illness that could hinder them from exercising. These people can cut their weight down by fasting and drinking lots of fluids.

Here are a few cost effective solutions for obesity. Things like tobacco, soda and drugs should not be banned; instead they should legalize them as Mexico did . That will render the market useless and those selling it will quit. Develop self control when you see food. I mean curb your appetite. The CDC says that if you are gaining weight it means “You are eating more calories than your body is using. You will store these extra calories as fat and you'll gain weight” . You have never seen a real marathoner who is fat. Running and walking will cut your weight down. You do not need the gym. The government rather than ban soda should spend money on commercials that encourage people to run and walk. There are many counties with no walking or running pavements. The government should reorganize the roads. If you cannot run and cannot walk, then fast for fasting doesn’t kill. I have stayed 3 days with no water and no food and never died. I have stayed for seven days only drinking water and never died. So those who pretend that you will die from fasting are telling a lie. Instead, fasting will cleanse your system.

Until then, I am willing to help anyone cut down their weight.

There Is No Sin For A Couple To Divorce To Save Their Finances.

A friend forwarded me an article posted in Huffingtonpost on September 16, 2009 about a loving couple who plan to divorce to stay afloat financially. It is one of those paradoxes that make you cringe at face value. Divorce is a costly exercise that has pushed many to kill just to save them from the expenses when one reads the news below.

In January, 2009, a company director murdered his wife and tried to burn her body in pet cemetery incinerator to avoid a costly divorce . In April, 2006, Sullivan was convicted for hiring a hit man to kill his wife to avoid a costly divorce . In June of 2005, BBC headlines read: “A lab technician has been jailed for life for murdering his second wife so he could avoid a costly divorce” . These few examples are mild as compared to the ones you have heard. So how would they be gaining financially when others regard divorce as a black hole?

Money trouble had led Mary McCurnin and husband Ron Bednar to declare bankruptcy in 2003 due too cumbersome health costs their insurance companies could not cover. Efforts to refinance their house to pay the medical bills were futile. McCurnin is a widow whose 20 year old husband died in 1989. If she is single and ready to mingle, she could claim his survivor benefits when she turns 60 in November 2009. After her widow’s benefits start to flow she will remarry .

Isn’t this digamy many inquired? Is there any righteousness at all in what they are doing? Rather this reinvites the question "when is a couple said to be married". Is it when they sign court papers or when they make a vow before God?

We must first acknowledge that the Bible is against divorce (Mt 19:9). Why then would we say they are not sinning by divorcing to remarry? Marriage is the bond in blood sexually administered. That means; once a couple makes a bond, and they start to have sex, they are married. In other words; whether they sign legal papers in court or not, they are husband and wife. For marriage to have taken place it suffice the husband to leave his parents and to cleave to his wife as one flesh (Gen 2:24; Mt 19:5-6). It is like two people under a balaclava!

There is no Biblical injunction for court papers and church approval before a couple could be considered married. The presence of the court and church is to have a witness to the marriage for earthly benefits as they are having now. They already have God as their witness on the day they made the proposition vow, and sealed it in sex thereafter. That is why sex is sacred and not just an emotional exercise.

Actually, marriage takes place when they start to have sex after proposition and not on the day of the ceremony. The wedding day is a ceremonial day. That is the day that humans who live here on earth with you stand to testify and witness that you are truly husband and wife, and on this day you benefit from the earthly spousal advantages.

Therefore, if you do not declare your marriage before men then you cannot be entitled to earthly benefits too since God does not give you those earthly benefits like spousal and survivor support. The social security and welfare do.

So if this couple decides to break off before the law for the wife to benefit from her ex husband’s survivor benefit plan she has not sinned after all, the court and church approval are for societal recognition and inconsequential before God. In Ecclesiastes 7:16, Solomon says “Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself? Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time”?

I don’t think that by creating a fake divorce they are putting money at the center of the institution of marriage. It simply means they are “rendering therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's” (Mt 22:21). The confusion comes from the fact that you think there is a divorce. Does it mean that if someone tore his marriage certificate they are divorce?

Again it looks like a lie but there is no lie since before the law they are divorced but before God they are not. There are times when the human law conflicts with the divine law like the case of Daniel and King Darius. Darius passed a law that no one should pray to any other God but Daniel challenged that (Dn 6:10). I t could be a defiance of the human law but then God still protected him because Daniel has decided to obey the superior law to the inferior one. Wasn’t a lie that Rahab told to the officials of Jericho (Joshua 2:4)? Why then did God honor her (Joshua 6:17)? Why is that considered an act of faith (Heb 11:31)?

The crux here is not whether marriage is a process but if the beginning of marriage. In clear terms: when does marriage begin? Every process has a beginning and marriage should have one. That is where I say marriage begins when a proposition vow is made before God whether in private or in public and then sealed with sex. In this case, sex becomes a sacred act rather than an experimental act to satisfy the flesh. It is the consummation of marriage which is a process but it must have a beginning. In addition, the approval is not that of humanity since the institution is not theirs.

Joe, you make me laugh indeed. If the blessings of a couple was not ceremonial then why is it that some whose parents refused them blessings ended up having a happy and prosperous marriage while those whom the church blessed ended up in a divorce after two years. Some of them though they stuck inside remained very unhappy. I don’t remember when I said that only one partner’s opinion is valid. I have defined marriage as a bond in blood sexually administered.

In Mosaic Israel, if a man was to marry a woman even though he had paid the dowry but she was not his wife until the proof of virginity took place. It was the sexual administration that sealed the marriage. If she did not pass this test there was no marriage. While the test was to test her virginity; it could only be sexually administered. While the elders sat at the city gate waiting for the results so they could endorse it as witnesses, they whole thing depended on the first sexual intercourse.

Joe, marriage is a process but with a beginning. It is like the debate when does a fetus become a human being. No one refuses that it is human but when though is the question. No one refuses that marriage is a process but when does it begin is the question.

When Rebecca was brought to Isaac he did not become his wife immediately. When Abraham’s servant saw Rebekah and took her from her parents as wife for his master’s son, she did not become his wife immediately despite having paid the dowry (Gen 24:51). Yet marriage did not start there because the other partner to enter into the bond which would be sexually administered was not there. Her parents gave her blessing (gen 24:60) but marriage has not started. Isaac took Rebekah to his father but remember she is not yet his wife. She only became his wife later after the bond has taken place in his mother’s tent (Gen 24:67).

You asked me if we could then have sex before the wedding day. Yes, we should if we have made the vow. If not you mean that a couple that is trapped in a forest cannot marry because they are not where they can celebrate in a church or sign papers in a court for people to bless them. So if a couple was washed ashore an island where they are the only inhabitants and they make vows to love in happiness and in sadness, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in riches then they are not married until that is done in church?

The lie incident you raised about Isaac and Rebekah in Gerar (Gen 26:1-7) is really not founded. His lie to Abimelech was to save him from the envious and promiscuous men. Yet that does not break the bond just like our couple has not broken their bond. If I am an athlete I can decide to reject the enbdorsment of my sponsors but that does not mean I am no more an athlete. It will only make me suffer financially. Like it will make a couple suffer from lack of advantages that come with those institutions endorsing the marriage. All they had broken was the human endorsement. God intervened because the marriage was still valid before him though the endorsement before men had been rejected.

Joe, if God had considered it a sin he would have at least rebuked them; a thing He never did. Perhaps saying fake is hard but let us say: “creating the appearance of a divorce thereof”; a semblance of a divorce which does not exist. The public declaration he made does not annul the wedding vow he made. Not all public declaration is meaningful!

Indeed the blessings of our parents, church and law are perfunctory in endorsing a marriage. But the blessings are important as custodians of the child since children must obey their parents so that their days must be long (Eph 6: 1-3). Your parents, church and court do not approve a marriage; they merely bless it. In other words, simply because the church says the marriage is annulled does not mean you are divorced. Else it would mean that before God too your marriage is over? If your parents say they do not like your wife does it mean the marriage is annulled?

Consequently, there are certain things that may be wrong in our eyes but not wrong before God because he never ever established them that way in the first place. The reason why this is not a sin is because they are not really divorcing since they are keeping their bond in blood and administering it sexually, but they are complying with the human law since they are subject to the law of the land. The divorce is on paper which is not different from a couple sleeping in two different bedrooms. Their union is not approved and established by the court or the church; it is by God to whom they made the vow as the union Binder. In their case, there will be no deuterogamy if they return to court to remarry after the survivor benefits kick in. They will remarry merely to benefit from the law of the land which they must scrupulously adhere to fulfill their civil obligations.

Until then, the couple is not sinning in anyway.

Dabbling With The Forbidden.

Dr Faustus became dissatisfied with traditional form of knowledge and decided to dabble with magic. He finally ended up exchanging his soul for it by signing a pact with Lucifer to take his soul to hell when he dies. Though given many opportunities, he did not repent because he has been blinded by his rashness. Dr Faustus’s story is very common nowadays. Each time humanity dabbles with the forbidden the consequences could be terribly disastrous.

Barga became addicted to smoking because his father and uncle were sending him to light the cigarette and give it to them, or bring them a match to light the cigarette. He became used to and then conquered the forbidden fear thereof. Next time rather than light the cigarette to give to them, he lit it and stuck it into his own mouth when they were not there. He later upgraded to weed and today he is a human chimney. He has tried all the Stop Smoking In 24 Hours to no avail.

Kathryn became addicted to crack cocaine because they were in a party and everyone was trying drugs. She decided to try it just to keep up with the occult power of the crowd. The end of it is that, the ring reader who even began the craziness is not addicted today but the curious cat is.

I began with the anecdote of Dr Faustus. There are many out there who venture into ventriloquism (act of speaking to the dead - a practice common in the US) for curiosity sake. Today they walk to the grave almost weekly to speak to their dead relative. Listen to me: the dead do not speak! You will end up practicing spiritism.

How many have entered into secret societies like Nyungu, AMORC, Free Masonry because they wanted to see what it was all about and never got back out? In 1992, Money-Eye met a friend who looked like money and spoke money. He told him that each time he needed money he went to a priest who prayed for him. After the prayers, when he opened his eyes, there was already money on the table. He will take it and go away. So Money-Eye told him to take him to the priest so he could witness it himself. When it happened, he wanted to try it too. The priest prayed and 200,000 CFA appeared on the table. They told him that they will tell him how to pay it back.

Two weeks later he began hearing voices asking him to come back and pay the money. His abderian trip has become a pygalgia. He shared the thing with his friend who told him that he could not just pay it like that. Invisible hands began pulling him unto the road. Time and again they pushed him towards the road with voices asking him to give his child. He gave the first son but it did not work. He gave the second then realized he had joined a secret society because he dabbled with the forbidden. After the death of his second son, he ran into a church where the chains were broken by deliverance.

Jimjim was a young man from Batibo who came to Quartier Yabassi when he was only 14. His family was Jesus Christ Oriented and heaven bound. Everyone knew if the roll was called up yonder he will be there. He was sent to study in a small village without a relative and caretaker. Towards the end of the year after the students had finished their exams, his friends invited him to the club. Not to appear a Sissy, he followed them and partook in the lebensfreude.

He has never smoked before but when cigarette stub that was passing by reached him, he could not let it go. When the cigarette was still afar, in the midst of the walla-walla, he struggled within himself . Finally, he promised himself that it would be his first but the last time too to ever smoke. He pulled once, and they asked him to inhale twice, then a third, then a fourth, and he coughed. They clapped and screeched saying "You are now a man as from today". Theretofore, it became a habit that led to addiction. He forgot the basic lesson that his parents taught him: “resist the devil and he will flee away from you”.

If you give Lucifer a position he will want to seize the kingdom, and if you let him visit the garden he will want to become the gardener.

Rachel had hired three ecdysiasts for the husband’s 32nd birthday. 6 months later, she discovered that the bulk of their savings was disappearing. She had sown wild oaks in him that will ultimately ruin their marriage. No one will sow seeds in a fertile soil and does not make a great harvest. Surely you have read that one can only reap what they sowed. She sowed wild oaks and reaped wild oaks.

Perhaps you are visiting Brazil where “whatever happens in Brazil stays in Brazil” and everyone starts to dawdle with some narcotics. It reaches your turn but you say let me just try it. Mistake; you may not be lucky to come out of that experience. What God tells you to avoid should be avoided. Don’t we say "It is curiosity that kills the cat"?

No one dabbles with the forbidden and leaves without a scar. That which is forbidden is forbidden. Men and women must be satisfied with what they see, know and have.

Until then, never experiment with the forbidden!

Presumption is not faith; it is unbelief.

“Est-ce qu’il y a une distinction entre la présomption et la foi?”
In 1998 in our Full Gospel Mission Nsimeyong 2 church, we felt the pinch of presumption. We always insisted on our youths staying in school and providing good scholastic results before participating in our church activities. This year it would not be so because there was a new doctrine: Name-It-and-Claim-It making wave in town. When I cautioned the youths to study rather than come to the evening meeting, an elder exhorted them with James 1:17 to just pray, and God will give them knowledge and wisdom.

During the Thursday prayer session, the young people were made to pray and claim their success in the Baccalaureate and Probatorie Exams. I heard a young man say “Seigneur je prend ca qu’avec la main gauche” (Lord I am taking it with the left hand). Another one said “Seigneur voila je sors avec la mention très bien” (Lord I will pass with excellent grades). I bowed my head down and grinned in disbelief. I could not fathom if they are the same youths I have been bringing up. Months after the tests scores came out, everyone failed. I told a friend: “I hate to always be right”. It was the first time we ever experienced such bad results in that church. The next year, most of the youths learnt their lesson to study rather than come to church and claim “Seigneur je prend ca qu’avec la main gauche”.

The dictionary defines presumption as the act of overstepping one’s bounds .
Take for example that you decide to ride a boat in a sea without a life jacket because you are a child of God. Or as a student you forego reading to going to church because God gives wisdom and knowledge. I hear people say that rather than pray for protection go and confront your enemies. Did you not know, did you not hear that we wrestle not against physical but spiritual powers (Eph 6:12)?

Perhaps I should tell you what presumption could do. The sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu presumed that simply because their father was a priest they could offer incense too. Mistake; they were struck dead for presumptuousness (lev 10:1-2). That is because they were crossing their boundaries. They were not priests to offer the good sacrifice of incense.

Another example was Uzzah. While they were leading a procession to take back the Ark of the Covenant, the oxen stumbled and Uzzah fearing the Ark was going to fall, held it with his bare hands. At once the Lord Struck him dead (2 Sam 6:2-7; I chr 13:7-10). The first mistake was that the Ark was on a cart rather than on poles carried by people and the second was that of touching that Ark as if to help God. It is sinful and unbelief when we try to help God in our problems. That is contrary to faith because “faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen” (Heb 11: 1). You see the river does not flow backwards simply because a king is dead. That means without you the work of God will still go ahead. The natural order of things will not be altered simply because you do not help God.

God will raise a prophet and put what to speak in his mouth. However if that prophet presumes for God then they trespass (Deut 18: 18-20). Presumption sets you out of divine boundaries and exposes you to danger (Num 14:44-45).

Another example is Lev 10:1-2. At times even by doing the things we think are for God, it may not be well. In this case, these kids were not supposed to offer that sacrifice. By doing that they presumed they had the right too as children of the priests. Since presumption is a sin those who are presumptuous actually grieve the Holy Spirit as any sin does (Eph 4:30). The devil tries to coerce Jesus into a presumptuous act to jump from a tall building so that the Lord will catch him. Jesus rejected the bait Mt 4:6-7).

Acts of presumption are really acting against the word of God (Deut 1:43). The psalmist prayed for God to keep his servant away from the sin of presumptuousness because it kills (Num 15:30; Ps 19:13). As a matter of fact, even human beings do not tolerate presumption (Esther 7:5). When we presume speaking for God we are actually speaking for the flesh (Deut 18:20). People who are presumptuous are merely geared by their self-will (2 pet 2:10). They want to do it their way rather than wait for the intervention of the Authority. God is able to carry out his plans and does not need your help!

Until then, beware of presumptuousness!

Caster Semenya: The woman the others fear.

It all started when an 18 year old from South Africa will compete in her 800 m race. Due to her muscular built body and her deep voice, the other competitors went affright allowing Lilliputian complex to creep in them as they murmur "she is a man". Before the tests results were even conducted, the IAAF had started humiliating her by barring her from making her traditional victory lap that all victors do after they win a competition like hers. Before the results were even discussed with her, an Australian newspaper had already published them. How did they get the results when they were not in the laboratory? Either the IAAF doctors or those in charge of the tests betrayed the young lady. The world has failed the 18 year old!

She is not the first woman to go through gender controversies. There was nothing like internal examinations. It was not until the autopsy of Stella Walsh that they discovered she had both male and female chromosomes even after participating in the 1932 and 1936 Olympics . That is why she lived a happy life until her tragic death.

Many others have trodden in Semenya’s shoes but none had the humiliation she has had. The only one who comes closer is that of the Indian: Santhi Soundarajan . The result was an attempted suicide. Gender tests have not begun today. They began since 1930. So why hitherto is the world still finding difficulty dealing with them?

Do you remember Dora Ratjen whom the Nazis forced to live as a woman ? She still did not go through the humiliation that Semenya is going. In addition, those consented in transforming their situations but Semenya’s is natural. She was born a girl, grew up a girl but happen to have male features too.

Another example is that of Edinanci Silva a Brazilian who “was born with both male and female sex organs. In the mid-1990s she had surgery in order to live and compete as a woman” . Even though the IOC knew very well that he had undergone surgery to compete as a woman, they still did not make it a deal. Thus I do not see Semenya being stopped from competing else it will be gross miscarriage of justice.

Caster Semenya’s parents raised her up as a girl and she sees herself as a girl. Her immediate physical features which are the breast and the vagina all testify to that. I am aware simply a strip test will be insufficient to determine if you are male or female. However, in matters of a race it should suffice. When we go internal to determine ones sexual status is an aberration since there are known women who were born naturally with the deformity of not having a uterus . Does she immediately become a man simply because she has no uterus? Her condition does not empower her; rather the psychological weight of never conceiving and bearing her own child may handicap her if the world keeps up the drumbeats.

Some argue that she should not be allowed to compete with other women because it gives her an unfair advantage. What makes me laugh is that before she won the competition she had entered other competitions. But because she did not win, the intersex status was not an issue. Immediately she began winning it was now all of a sudden a different matter. By the way, don’t’ the feminists say that “what a man can do a woman can do even better”? Why then the fuss? Why don’t they allow her to enter the races she wants to enter? Ok then if she is not made to run with the women, should she be made to run with the men where she will gain an unfair disadvantage?

Just by having male characteristics would not have made her win the race because there are many men who would have run and taken last with Marion Jones or even Paula Radcliffe. There are many men who will be left meters apart if they had to compete with Allyson Felix. Just because you are a male does not make you faster than a woman. Furthermore, looking at the effects of congenital adrenal hyperplasia, one does not see speed .

The leak again in her tests results shows a grievous human weakness: keeping a secret. People do not know how to keep secrets. All those who leaked the test results to cash in money or popularity have failed the young woman and failed God. If the ruckus was well handled, no ear would have heard of it; you would have just realized that the athlete is no more running or she is running depending on the consensus.

Meanwhile, though it is difficult to point directly from the Bible that this is what it says about hermaphrodites, we may find some pointers. Nonetheless, whatever reason as biblical doctrine we profess, will be by deduction. One thing is clear that those with physical conditions were to be sheltered from raillery because it would be like cursing the deaf and the blind (Lev 19:14). All these imperfections came through sin and so we will just have to deal with them. What does the bible say about hermaphrodites? Semenya should not be made an outcast for it is not her fault. It is like a man born blind. Should we blame them for being born blind? It just happened that her own infirmity is a blessing that she is ready to embrace. She should be allowed to drain her tears of not being able to bear children from her own womb with medals from the track field.

Until then, let Semenya do what she does best.

Biya’s Vacation: A Question of National Disgrace

This article is a response to Mr. Agbaw-Ebai’s article: Biya’s Vacation: A Question of National Pride” that was published on the Camnetworks yesterday. It always puzzles me why when someone writes an article, rather that rebut we go on with ad hominems. Whether the author was in Harvard, is going to Harvard or is jobless is inconsequential. What matters is what he writes and his personal life should be kept away from the message he is conveying.

Notwithstanding, the problem with Mr. Agbaw-Ebai’s article is that rather than refute with facts, he goes after the French. Cameroonians should thank the French reporters for informing them and giving them an opportunity to peep into the expenses of their country. The question should not be if the president merits a vacation or not (for anyone who works merits a vacation). Rather, the question should be how much vacation does the president of Cameroon merit? Who is that responsible father who would leave his hungry, tatterdemalion kids to go on an extravagant and ostentatious vacation?

Mr. Agbaw-Ebai starts by arguing that such inconsiderate expenses show national prestige and sovereignty. How does extravagance show sovereignty? Simply because a man is spending does not mean the money he is spending is his. Perhaps by late president Thomas Sankara asking all his ministers to drive Renault 4 it was not sovereignty. If so why did the very French collude for his death? Mr. Agbaw-Ebai argues that Paul Biya should not be blamed for doing what he did because every other president is doing it. Just because every other person is extorting and bribing in Cameroon does not make bribery and corruption right. Just because most third world presidents have a penchant for ostentation does not make it presidentially normative.

The author errs again by comparing the Cameroonian president with the American and French presidents. True, all are presidents but all do not have the same GNP. It is foolishness for someone who makes a $1 a day as daily perdiem to spend like someone who makes $50,000 a day. True both are earning money, but the other person makes more money. Perhaps their expenses are different and the person making more has many bigger expenses to make than the one making a dollar. But being precise it is clear that even with America’s or France’s expenses, they are still far richer than Cameroon for the Cameroonian president to emulate them in presidential expenses.

The author argues that a vacation is not really a vacation because the president is still working. So if a vacation is not really a vacation, are there no cheaper resort centers where he could go on vacation. How many Latin American presidents have gone on vacations the African style? Aren’t they sovereign nations and even with most of them richer than Cameroon?

He compares Obama’s visit to the theater and a restaurant as being expensive and similar. One thing you must note is that Mr. Obama did not cause the recession but it will be difficult to argue that Mr. Biya did not cause the economic crisis of Cameroon. After four years of his ascension to power, the recession began and hitherto Cameroonians have always been in a recession. If Cameroonians are not enjoying, why should he enjoy when it is beyond doubts that the recession began during his term. Let us say the groundwork for the recession were laid by his predecessor but having been there for more than a quarter of a century without fixing anything, shouldn’t he be more considerate as he spends the last francs of the country? If he knew and knows that a vacation was and is a noble thing, then he should have managed the country to a better port so that not only himself will take a vacation but other Cameroonians will take one.

By the way, Mr. Obama has the right to a sumptuous vacation for taking out or abating the recession in the US and consequently world economy. What has Mr. Biya done to merit the vacation?

Mr. Agbaw-Ebai argues that though he was on a vacation he needed a sumptuous and extravagant hotel to conduct the country’s business and to lure investors. That is a very ridiculous view. He is the president and does not need to take a vacation in an extravagant hotel to conduct business. Even if he was in a hole, there are many people who need him than he needs them. Thus, he could as well stay in a less expensive hotel and still conduct government business. Though I am not an Anti Biya but I believe the cost of the vacation was inappropriate and he should refund the money into the state coffers for I don’t believe that there was a budget of the sort for such a vacation, and if there is, then it is cruel to the many Cameroonians who will work and die without ever having a vacation because President Biya did not manage the country properly for them to get one.

Until then, comrade Biya should think of the people before he spends on himself.

News: God is becoming more a Stranger

This is Jesusman sitting in from your favorite station to bring the 6 p.m news. The debate is now clear: is God becoming a Stranger to our nation, or are guns becoming more dangerous. Guns have been killing people consequently; they should be removed from the streets some argue. Though guns may be a motivator but the will of the people is the killing machine. Guns on their own will never kill anyone others argue. Yet just seeing a human being kill another will be a senseless sight because some kill others for apparently no reason at all. Even if they had a reason, there is still an underlying factor that would leave humanity speechless when others manifest the instinctive values of animals. Like the roads, they do not kill but drivers are the ones who kill. Or perhaps we may argue that cars are killing people nowadays and so we should remove cars from the hands of drivers. We have seen experienced drivers cause some ghastly accidents and inexperienced ones do same. A gun in the hands of a criminal will be to kill others but in the hands of a god-fearing person it will be for protection. So then the question is why are there so many killings. Let us continue after this commercial break.

Solomon the wisest man that ever lived once said: “Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Prov 14:34).

We are back from our break. This news is culled and adapted from AOL.com.
“In New York, N.Y., Aug. 22: a fight escalated into bottle throwing and gunfire. A 31-year-old Brooklyn man died after being shot in the head. In Seminole, Okla., July 27: Ezekial Holbert allegedly opened fire fatally on two sheriff's deputies trying to serve a domestic abuse warrant at his mother's home in July 26, killing both officers. In Baltimore, Md., July 26: A gunman opened fire on a backyard cookout in Baltimore, Md., wounding 12 people. In Axton, Va., June 28: Police said a Virginia man lured his son home from college and then shot him in the back. Timothy Carter, 22, survived by playing dead he had already killed his wife, Bonnie, and their elder son. The father set the house on fire and then took his own life”. Ok let us take a commercial break.

Jesus said: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (Jn 10:10).

We are back from commercial break. This is your 6 p.m news being read by Jesusman in Austell, GA.

“Washington, D.C., June 10: A gunman opened fire at the Holocaust Museum, killing security guard Stephen T. Johns, 39. Little Rock, Ark., June 1: Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 23, opened fire outside a military recruiting office in Little Rock, Ark., killing one new soldier and wounding another. Wichita, Kansas, May 31: Scott Roeder gunned down George Tiller, a doctor who provided late-term abortions as he attended church. Lakeland, Fla., On May 3: Police say Troy Ryan Bellar, 34, shot and killed his wife and two of his sons, ages 5 months and 8 years, before shooting himself. A 13-year-old son managed to escape his father's shots safely. Pittsburgh, April 4: Three policemen were killed when a man opened fire on officers responding to a report of a domestic disturbance”. We will be right back but first let’s take a break.

For Jesus said: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Mt 11:28-29).

“Graham, Wash., April 4: After learning that his wife was leaving him, police said James Harrison killed his five children in their mobile home and then fatally shot himself in a car miles from the scene. Binghamton, N.Y., April 3: Jiverly Voong barricaded the back door of a community center with his car and then opened fire on a room full of immigrants taking a citizenship class, killing 13 people before apparently committing suicide, authorities said. Carthage, N.C., March 29: Robert Stewart opened fire at a nursing home, killing seven residents and a nurse. Oakland, Calif., March 21: A man pulled over in a traffic stop shot and killed four police officers in Oakland, Calif. South Alabama, March 10: Michael McLendon committed the worst mass shooting in the state's history, killing 10 people before taking his own life. His first victim was his mother”.

Listen, we have not yet reached the level where we can say Ichabod but we are on our way. Godlessness is soon overtaking godliness except as a nation we look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. With God bigger in your heart your flesh will grow smaller and atrocities will be less. Hear ye America, don’t leave God behind, for it shall not be well with you! Thank you for sitting with us and enjoying the wonderful news. See you tomorrow.

Until then, bring God back to our nation for He is the true Giver of peace!

Jaycee Dugard: A Sample of Godlessness

News broke out that Phillip Garrido abducted Jaycee Duggard and held her against her will for 18 years. The blame has been apportioned with the system and Garrido bearing the brunt thereof. After serious introspection, it is clear the blame lies beneath a veil we have failed to see through.

If it was in Africa, they would have said Jaycee was bewitched, but as you know according to Garrido, it was love that kept Jaycee in place. People are now philosophizing that she is a victim of the Stockholm Syndrome. One would have to question that injection since the Stockholm Syndrome or Helsinki Syndrome is more active only when the victim is still in captivity and has no way to flee. To adapt and survive in their new condition, they adapt and fall in love with their captor. On Larry King Live yesterday, there were two people who did business with the Garridos, Jaycee and her kids. Patty Hearst and Elizabeth Smart’s cases are two different scenarios which still are questionable when one flashes back at the original Stockholm incident. This was a peaceful resolution as to a violent take over.

Jaycee went out time and again that she would and could have called for help. Thus, this dismisses the Stockholm Syndrome as the cause for her stay. The next thing that one would have defended would be love as the rapist indicated.

Probably, this girl being abducted at 11, had not known much love before her abduction that during her abduction, she found a better life than what she had, and did not see why she should leave. That could be the possible explanation why she did not go to the police even if she was flattered and brainwashed that her parents were dead. If she was maltreated in that house, she would have sought for a means to run away in quest for better refuge.

In both the Stockholm situation and that of Duggard, it shows the failure of the police and the society rather than Phillip Garrido. The police now pays more attention to traffic tickets rather than on real criminals. The society has forgotten the parable of the Good Samaritan. The concepts that made and make a society safe are now estranged with the excesses of freedom and privacy laws. As a nation, we have failed and keep failing.

The ankle bracelet and GPS tracking device did not yield ample information to prevent Phillip Garrido from committing another crime or forearming the authorities with knowledge of his deeds. Perhaps it soothes our feelings and provides us with news to blame Phillip Garrido. You may ask me how we as a nation have failed. God is being rejected from schools. Aren’t we now forming modern zombies? The godless kids of yesterday are the evil people of today.

Yesteryears we sowed our wicked seeds in them, and today we reap in full harvest our wicked fruits. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Prov 14:34). How can a people practice righteousness when they deny God? A nation can only be wise in the statutes of the Lord. The Bible: bearer of those statutes has been thrown out of the lives of children. At this point in time, it is a curse rather than a blessing with the march to godlessness. This great country is skidding towards godlessness in a speed unparallel to the backsliding of any nation in history. Basic concepts of the preservation of human life have eroded to philosophical doctrines of human rights and privacy laws. The neighbor was the closest person you sought for help when in immediate need and rush. If you were running out of town, it was your neighbor who came to your succor (Ex 3:22; 11:2).

The Bible defines the neighbor as the nearest person by your house (Ex 12:4). But Jesus extended its definition to the nearest person beside you as parabled in the anecdote of the Good Samaritan. The Bible has warned the people not to bear false witness against their neighbor(Ex 20:16). False witness here meant telling lies. In the verse that follows, God adjured them not to covet their neighbor’s property which was the concept of protecting and preserving that which is your neighbor's. The notion of a neighbor was so strong that life revolved around it.

If the notion of a neighbor were properly exercised, there is no way the Garridos would have kept Jaycee for 18 years in bondage without anyone knowing. Again ask how many people really visit their neighbors? Ask how many people have gone to knock on the doors of their neighbors to find out how they are doing.

I had a friend who loved to quote proverbs 25:17 “Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbor’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee”. This verse is against excess visits and not mere visits. How many people go to their neighbors to invite their kids to come and play with theirs? Oh yeah, women easily share their inner hurts with the least opportunity though they may tell you never to share them with with anyone. Rather, we sit behind those fences and wait for opportunities to appear on TV and start to utter rubbish about a man who was strange.

Hypocrites as neighbors nowadays are used only as gossip centers against other neighbors (Prov 11:9). By flattering your neighbor, you set a net to his feet (prov 29:5). A neighbor was supposed to dwell securely by you (Prov 3:29). If the Garridos were rich, the neighbors would have been more interested in them than that pauper condition. That confirms the Bible’s assertion that “When a man is poor he is separated even from his neighbor” (Prov 19:4).

The society must come back to God to avoid situations like this. There are many out there kidnapped. To buttress this point I want to remind you of a few examples.

Steven Stayner was abducted by Kenneth Parnell in 1965 and kept for seven years until he escaped; rescuing another abductee called Tim White. Despite the love and new family he found, it still did not prevent him from escaping once he saw an opportunity.

In January 2000, BBC published an article about a Japanese woman: Fusako Sano who was kidnapped and kept for more than 9 years in an upper storey house. Despite the love that she had for the man, the day of light was more than the years with her captor.

In September 2006, Austrian Weekly news showed an 18 year old Natascha Kampusch who had escaped from a tiny cell after 8 years in captivity by Wolfgang Priklopil. The least opportunity she had she escaped and saved her life.

April 2008 news broke out that Elizabeth Fritzi missing for 24 years was actually kidnapped by her own father-Josef Fritzi with whom she fathered 7 children in a cellar in his basement. Despite the love and chemistry they have developed immediately she found an opportunity, she took it. She did not have a means to escape and if she wanted to live longer she must adjust to her condition while she hopes.

Therefore, parents must educate their kids on how to avoid being adducted, the community and neighborhoods must become the keepers of each other and the authorities must do their job properly. Except the society learns that though the cock that crows belongs to the household but it crows affect the community, then they will not stop to be individualistic. This can only be achieved by a return to godly principles on family values.

Until then, I wish the young woman well.

Manyu Militants invite Comrade Paul Biya.

To Prof. Agbor Tabi, congratulations once more! The Manyu people and the Cameroonians abroad are all behind you. If you go home and the election does not take place please give it to the CPDM. That will sound very familiar because there has been precedence with the Manyu people in the US. If you do not like the congratulatory messages for Prof Peter Agbor Tabi please don't worry you will soon get over it.

When I was a kid I had a village boy who always stole one hundred francs all the time. Then he began stealing one thousand, hundreds of thousands and then he finally stole one million. People always argued that he could not steal more than a hundred francs be because he had never stolen a thousand francs. He never stole a thousand because he had never seen a thousand. Once he saw it he stole it. We do not expect a 2 year old to steal one million dollars. First he does not know its worth and secondly he may not see it. The same thing goes for those who are criticizing Biya. They have never tested power yet they are more corrupt than the man.

An honest man will meet with other honest people and they will build an honest community. An honest community will build an honest country and an honest country will build an honest world. Perhaps that is utopia, but for honesty to stay at the national level, it must begin in our individual hearts and homes which is absent.

I am afraid Cameroon seems hopeless: not because of the departing Paul Biya, for whether he likes it or not he will one day leave, but because those who aspire to take the baton are worst.

Here we are: a people corrupt to the bone and marrow; a people who see white and call black and black we call white. Here is a people specialized in stealing elections and making the unvoted stay in power in the Diaspora. Yet we cry wolf at the people at home and pretend we want to teach them morals. I have always laughed when I see Manyu people from England try to teach those in the US peace when they know no peace; after all they have three Manyu England and now live in little clusters. To those I say this “Doctor heal thyself”. Here we have those in the US who fabricate absentee ballots and install kings without kingdoms tell those at home they are shocked with what is happening at home.

You only have to be shocked because you are of no good. Yes, no good at all! You can go on exile after all being in Diaspora is a step to self imposed economic exile! Yes, exile I said you should go!
Prof Agbor Tabi will amass all the support he likes and Paul Biya will remain in power as long as his life can permit. If you do not like it, run away; I say run and do not come back. Nobody needs any of you anyway. After all you have shown that if you had the power you will be worst. So I say run and run far from the young ones, run and run far from the poor, and run and run far from the voiceless.

Those who talk about the roads in Mamfe and Manyu would mean a thing if they had shown a proclivity for truth and honesty. But if they are more corrupt than those they criticize all we can advise them is “worry not our peace for thou makest noise. For thou has no voice”! So I say run and run far for your voice does not mean a thing to anyone.

If we were acting differently in the Diaspora from our compatriots at home by holding free and fair elections, conducting independent elections and installing people in power who are duly voted then when we raise our voices against the malpractices of the CPDM even the dead will hear our voices, and as usual God would have sided with us. But if we do the same thing we criticize in others, God will not hear our cries whether we weep on mountain tops or down in the deepest valleys.

Cameroon will not change by us making noise; it will change if we all can show an iota of honesty in the minimal political engagements we have with our compatriots.

Until then, unto this I ascribe my name.

Is It Biblical For Women To Preach, Cover Their Hair Or Even Be Pastors?

There has always been controversy whether women should preach, pray with their hair uncovered, teach men or even be pastors at all. Consequently I will divide this lesson into three concise parts. The first part will answer the question “must women cover their hair with a cloth in church.” The second will treat “Is it biblical for a woman to preach or teach”, and the third will answer “is it biblical for a woman to be the pastor of a church”.

"Must women cover their hair with a cloth in church?”
In Israel women kept their hair and men cut theirs. Those who did not shave were only Nazarites. If a woman was accused of adultery, the priest will uncover the hair (In Num 5:18). The root word in /uncover/ is to let loose. That means to spread out the hair. In others words, it confirms the teaching of Paul that her long hair is already her covering (ICor11:15). In the days of Paul, the prostitutes cut their hair and the chaste ones kept theirs.

When the Bible says a woman should not pray with her hair uncovered (I Cor 11:5; 13), it simply means she should not shave because she will look like a harlot. So we all agree that a woman should cover her head. But the question now becomes “with what though”. Those who have hair will use their hair as a covering but those without hair need a scarf, hat, head-tie or cloth for a covering. If it meant using a cloth, scarf or head-tie, then why would the same Bible explain that her hair was given to her as covering (I Cor 11:15)?

However, the Bible is not against women adorning themselves but condemns the outward adorning rather than both the inward and outward person (I Tim 2:9; I pet 3:3). In other words, the same time you spend on making yourself look beautify outside you should do same with the person inside.

"Is it biblical for a woman to preach or teach?”At the same time that the men were asked to provide for the construction and beautification of the tabernacle, the women contributed in building the Tabernacle (Ex 35: 25-26). Even amongst women, there are differences for some were lively and others were not (Gen Ex 1:19). One other factor why women were kept aside in addition to the decree of God after the fall was the wars. After the wars, the virgins were kept for their captors (num 31:35). It was just from there that the abuse began. The women became the man’s slaves and the general status of the woman degraded. There were activities solely for women-they went out to fetch water (Gen 24:11) while men tended the sheep. This is also with most traditional societies.

Those who say that a woman should not preach base their arguments on two passages: “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection” (I Tim 2:11), and “Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law” (I Cor 14:34). If it meant so why would Paul praise Acquilla and Priscilla (his wife) for teaching Apollos-a man (Act 18:24-26). Flashing back, Paul did not condemn women who were praying and prophesying in church though at this time, he was correcting the excesses and abuses of the early church (I Cor 11:5). Perhaps we may not include Phoebe (Rom 16:1) amongst the female teachers since she was a deaconess and deacons were over the business of serving tables (Acts 6:2-3). Nonetheless, there were other women like Mary, Tryphena and Tryphosa who labored in the Lord though the nature of their labor was not specified. However, Paul in his epistle to the Philippians clarified that they “laboured with me (Paul) in the gospel” (Phili 4:2). Albeit, we acknowledge that there are various facets of laboring in the gospel. Nonetheless, we cannot discount that they neither preached nor taught the gospel.

There is a close relationship between prophecy and preaching in that both deal with the proclamation of the word of God although prophecy may become more personal to touch an individual’s private life in either forthtelling or foretelling. Therefore, if women could be prophetesses then they could preach since there is precedence.

Miriam was a prophetess (yet that poses a problem because her followers were only women (Ex 15:20). Deborah was a prophetess (Judges 4:9-10). Jeremiah asked the women to hear the word of the Lord and teach their daughters and their neighbors (Jer 9:20). Certainly not all the neighbors were all women.

The Angel praised Jael (“the wife of Heber the Kenite”) for doing the work of God (Judges 5;24-26) while the men lived in fear. It is synonymous to a woman who decides to preach while the men sit to fight for positions in the church. God has the tendency of appearing before the women first and perhaps setting them as avant-gardes of evangelism when the angel appeared unto Manoah’s wife first (Judges 13:6) the same way Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene first (Mt 28:7).

The woman at the well left her water pot after hearing the gospel and witnesses to the men (Jn 4:28). After believing, the people tried to downplay her role in their conversion by saying they have heard Him (Jesus) themselves (Jn 4:42). But remember without her going to preach to them they would not have come.

To refuse women from preaching is to limit the call of God or to disregard the Holy Ghost as the giver of spiritual gifts. Jesus said: "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest" (Mt 9:37-38). There is no precision for male laborers only. Shouldn't men be thankful they are having help from familiar sources?

The women were not only known to speak for God, they also spoke for the devil like the witch at Endor (I Sam 28:7). Indeed most people who practiced witchcraft were women. That is why it is easy to find in the Bible the word witch than wizard. Having been rejected by men to speak for God they then turned into speaking for the devil. They were converted into instruments of the devil. Therefore, it is expedient how we turn people away because of gender or age. God commanded the widow to feed Elijah while there were men having a council meeting (I kgs 17:9).

"Is it biblical for a woman to be the pastor of a church?”
After the fall, the position that God put the woman was that of subservience before the man (Gen 3: 16). During the Tabernacle worship the women always assembled at the outer court (I Sam 2:22). The reason why women could not go into the inner courts and Holy of Holies was because they were unclean and needed to be purified. With the coming of the Lord; the unclean became cleaned and the woman like the sinner gained acceptance before the Lord that she is now free to go before the throne of grace with boldness. If they can go before Him with boldness then they can serve him for no more do the men become more important than the women.

God created both male and female (Gen 1:27). Jesus emphasizes the same concept of male and female equality (Mt 19:4; Mk 10: 6) and Paul said there should be no inequality when it comes to worshipping and serving God (Gal 3:28). In saving the 8 in the Ark of Noah, God took in male and female because his work of procreation cannot be done by man alone. The woman and the man need each other in the ministry.

Until then, let the women in.

This article is in reaction to Val Ngwa’s article: “Racial/Ethnic prejudice as a psychiatric manifestation; the Case of Graffi-bashing” posted on the Camnet forum on August 21, 2009 in reaction to Emmanuel Konde’s recent articles on the people of North West Province. Val Ngwa wanted to prove that “people who continuously make prejudicial remarks about other ethnic groups or colors, do so “because of an abnormal psychology”. The author starts on a faulty note to claim that it is no longer possible to tell the ethnic origin of Cameroonians simply from their physiognomies. It is stretching psychology for personal gains since there are serious physical differences between those of the Grand North and those of the South, the Bamileke and the Bulus, the pigmies of Mouloundou and those of the maritime areas even though both groups harbor similar forest topography. Furthermore, even if that posed a problem, the difference in languages will automatically reignite the prejudice in the individual if they were sinful. As such, the issue of prejudice between and amongst ethnic groups would not abate in the nearest future.

Today this author had just gone to Meyo Catering Service at Underground in Austell, Georgia to hang out with friends. He saw a young man and began speaking in Bassa with him. He asked him how the author knew he was Bassa. The author told him his face had betrayed him because he preached in their area. While the face may camouflage a little bit, but the voice, intonation and accent would exposed them. Thus, to claim that physical differences are no more outwardly apparent is far from the truth. Another example would be the white and blacks. There will always be black people and there will always be white people.

More so, the author argues that the usage of the term “Herd Mentality” is a result of “an inferior brain’s quest for probable accuracy”. Indirectly, the author classifies truth as emanating from an inferior brain since the expression “Herd Mentality” is an analogy in comparison with the manner a herd of cattle will follow their own into a pit without any judgment. The people from the North West of Cameroon have shown a proclivity on Camnet in joining their fellow autochthones from the same province to fight anyone who challenges one of theirs; whether they are wrong or right. Such is an observational truism that has nothing to do with prejudice.

It is erroneous to think that if there was prejudice at all, it could be considered an illness. Despite the fact that John Rocker was asked to undergo psychotherapy sessions, his actions could not be termed a psychiatric illness. Judy Jones and William Wilson (1995)1 argue that psychotherapy is “a European invention that created a lot of inadequacy of such and absolutionist point of view. Since it was difficult to determine who was sane for one thing and not for another”. If what both Rocker and Konde were saying is the truth, then truth be told; it may be bitter but must be swallowed. To one recipient such truth may be prejudice while to another it is truth as observed.

It makes Konde right because Konde is speaking the truth. Rocker should not have been ordered to undergo psychotherapy for speaking his mind, and Konde should not be cyber-bullied from stating a fact. He does not need the spurious psychotherapy. Rather those with a “Herd Mentality” need it (since they believe in it) to be able to accept the truth. Wilson had earlier indicated that that is a European invention that does not even work well and he wonders why the Americans keep believing in it.

Val Ngwa goes further to mimick false concepts almost like what we call in theology “eisegesis”; where you make a passage say what it should not and does not intend to say. He states the number for the research and treatment of psychiatric treatment but does not indicate that there are others who do not think psychiatric treatment could be treated that way. As you know, there are others who believe it is a demonic issue and should be treated by way of spiritual deliverance. The fact that the American Psychiatric Association propagates psychotherapy does not mean all psychiatrists accept the idea and does not make it right!

The problem here is not Konde; it is those with a “Herd Mentality” trying to run away from the truth. Actually, it has been evinced in this forum and many Cameroonian forums that those from the Northwest Province practice cyber-bully. When one of theirs manufactures subjectivities as facts, they hail him and call him messiah, but when another person does it, they say who “wacko”, “oh psycho”, “oh mentally ill patient”. While the truth is bitter, my brothers and sisters from the Northwest Province must learn to swallow it until they purge themselves of such cyber-bullying which in itself is the real sickness.

I don’t remember the Manyu incident you are talking about. If it did happen we will realize it is sporadic and not a chronic rule as exhibited by those with a “Herd Mentality” from the North West Province who have made it a rule. Perhaps this anecdote will suffice.

Efamandem (changed named): an African professor in a university in Michigan bought a home. He bought and wrapped the most expensive candy with his business card to introduce himself to his new family. After receiving it, the community quickly convoked a meeting, they deliberated and concluded Efamadem was a child predator trying to lure their kids with candy. They cautioned the neighbors to avoid him until he was kicked out of the neighborhood. The police patrols increased. When he sees one of his neighbors in the morning and wants to greet them, they quickly ran back into their house or hopped into their car. Those who were bold put on plastic smiles.

Efamadem was single and ready to mingle. So he kept hitting on the ladies until one of them finally fell and gave him the revelation. He now believes Americans are hypocrites. “Why was no one kind enough to confront me” he soliloquized? To those Americans, candy was bait for kids while to Efamadem, it was metaphorical. The same way this candy is sweet is the same way he (Efamadem) is sweet. His statement “Americans are hypocrites” is not prejudice but a generalization based on his experience. If he had left from there to Africa, then that would have been the only community he has lived in and that statement is truth to him as an individual. Although those who have mingled with other Americans will find that myopic and prejudicial, but that does not amount to psychiatric illness. This will mean every truth rejected by an individual is prejudice, and the messenger should be checked into rehab for prejudice detoxification. It is shortsightedness but not prejudice!

Bell’s findings seem to reinforce Carl Rogers assertion that “evil is not inherent in human nature” (David Noebel 1999)2. The greatest weakness with the proposition from Bell and Rogers when citing psychotherapy as medicine is that even if prejudice was a psychiatric illness, the fact that it is inherent in human nature (soul) makes it difficult for such treatment since the soul is not auto-sufficient. The truth is that man is inherently evil due to his freewill. God made us that way (Norman Geisler and Ron Brooks 2004)3 and if we are to be healed from the inherent evil, the healing can only come out of mankind. That is where God comes in.

If prejudice is classified as a psychiatric illness and it being a sin, infers that every other sin should be classified as a psychiatric illness since all sin like prejudice come from the mind because actual sin is from peccatum originale (original sin) as stated by Berkhof: “This inner corruption is the unholy fountain of all actual sins” (Louis berkhof 2000)4 .

Consequently, the author errs in thinking that outward physical appearances of Cameroonians is no more apparent; meanwhile, the same ethnic groups still exist, errs in thinking that prejudice is a psychological illness but does not show the dichotomy between truth and prejudice and errs in thinking that prejudice could be cured by subjecting the individual to some psychotherapy though the latter has been shown inadequate. Physical appearances could easily differentiate Cameroonians from each other and place them in their respective ethnic groups. It is clear that prejudice is not a psychological illness and that though a frailty in human character could only be cured by trusting God and believing in Christ who transforms from the inside. If everyone loved his/her neighbor as himself /herself (a central theme in the message of Christ) then there will be no prejudice. In the course of loving, one would see the creature of God and not an ethnic group or a color.

How Can You Determine If Someone Is Financially Responsible?

If you have money and no wisdom we call you Money-Miss-Road. These are those people who are rich for some years and later fall down like Mingili Singili. He was a rich man; he had many names like ATM, Money Man, Wholesaler, Money Fountain, and many others. Girls called him their Miroir De Jeunes Filles, Bonbon Alcoolisé and even strangers called him their friend. Sometimes you thought money was persecuting him. When he entered a night club, he chattered all the drinks and froze every account. He bought land he never used and bought cars that he did not need. Mingili Singili missed Proverbs 21:7 and all his friends ran away; girls now began saying that he had craw-craw.

A financially responsible person must apply wisdom to differentiate between wants and needs. Though money answers everything (Eccl 10:19) you should allow your wisdom to talk sometimes. That is why Pharaoh wanted Joseph because he was discreet and wise (Gen 41:39). He could plan ahead of time. People who plan for raining days are financially responsible.

Wisdom entails you plan ahead of time. That is why Solomon asks us to learn from the ant which plan for raining and dry days (Prov 30:25). I do acknowledge that there comes a time wherein you have to live hand to mouth but try to save something at least. If you have a job, sign up for a retirement account where you put an automatic amount withdrawn directly from your payroll as it lands into your account. Sometimes many people start to build a house but they cannot complete it, then they start to blame others. That is purely financial irresponsibility. The Bible says you must sit down and draw a budget (Lk 14:28-30; Prov 7:20).

A financially responsible person always draws a budget. Before he/she enters into a shop they know what they want to buy. They know what they need and buy only what they came to buy. It is not financial responsibility to be a spendthrift or shopping witch. You know you don’t have money yet you still buy and mostly on credit cards. You will lose all your 32 teeth before you finish paying all your debts. It is not financial responsibility to have 5 credit cards with most of them maxed out already.

I stood on the line one day and had a young woman waste our time with her credit cards. Each one she took out rang a message “decline”. She will say “try this one”. I could not hold my patience so I told the cashier that I will pay the $12. If you were asked to define financial irresponsibility and you do not know just look at her. You may owe a mortgage, car-note or student loan but to owe for clothes and shoes while you are working is financially irresponsible.

People borrow money to go for a date or go to the movies. Others borrow money to eat out. If you cannot have money to eat out, then cook. Sit down with family and watch the movies on TV. One of my neighbors went on vacation while behind on her rents. Before she came back from vacation there was an eviction notice and a month after her vacation she was evicted. Irresponsibility is in various forms and going on vacation while behind in your rents is one of them.

A financially responsible person makes a balance sheet (Gen 47:18). Check your accounts and be ready to fill the gaps before you are audited (Lk 16:2). The Parables of the rich fool (Lk 12:13-21) and the unjust steward (Lk 16:1-13) do attest to it. In other words you could audit yourself though it is not possible.
You know a person who is financially responsible because they avoid trouble that cause them financial loss (negotiate with your enemies before they take you to the judge (LK 12:58).All these speeding tickets (even though some of them the police is lying) are sapping away your money.

A financially responsible person ploughs back (The rich fool). Only financially irresponsible people try to show off as if they are rich (Prov 13:7). It is financially irresponsible to be giving to rich (Prov 22:16).

Finally you know a financially responsible person because they give for the work of God. It will be sheer stupidity for you to forget the source of your strength. If God does not give you good health or life you will not be able to do anything.

Actually, giving to God is multiplying your finances by a hundredfold. If you give money for the work of God and you pray for money but he does not give it to you, He might make you never to be sick or not to incur any financial loss. Yet I do not mean falling into the trap of "give, name it and claim" or these pilferings that churches and their minister are orchestrating on their parishioners. Just be wise as to who you give to, and follow the guidelines of giving for the work of God. If a pastor is living sumptuously then that church doesn’t need your money; give it elsewhere.
Until then, let us strive to be financially responsible.

How Do You Know That A Man/Woman Is Cheap?

Let me start by explaining that what people mean by being cheap is that you do not like to spend. Yet there are two ways of being cheap: cheapness due to selfishness or cheapness as a good steward. Some people are cheap because they refuse the zeitgeist.

Those who are selfishly cheap do not buy new clothes; only used clothes, never have anything nice, do not eat good food and are allergic to vacations, pleasure, leisure and others. They drink from everyone but they never offer you a beer. When you ask, they tell you that they just became born-again so they don’t buy people alcohol. They only buy for themselves and no one else. If they want to buy you Christmas gift they try to buy the cheapest vase.

I remember Mpeng Ngolo- a man who was too cheap that he could not offer anything new to his friends. For his friend’s birthday, he ordered a broken flower vase over the internet thinking that when it will be shipped to his friend, he will think that it got broken while in transit. Unfortunately, the seller for good customer relations appended a little note that read: “I have carefully wrapped every piece of the vase separately so that they do not get more damaged. That will enable you to reglue them easier”.

They want gifts but never give to anyone as summarized “Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter (Is 56: 11).

However, there is a certain cheapness which is not bad. Clark Howard is a man who is cheap but it is not a bad cheapness since he buys new clothes at least. He buys his things on sales and knows how to use his money. The Bible scorns at those who are ostentatious and extravagant “There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches" (Prov 13:7). Such is a waste and actually evidence of bad stewardship.

Clark Howard is specialized in teaching people on how to save money and those who do not know him will think he is cheap. There is no pride in buying expensive things. Buying expensive things does not mean they are good or durable. One should learn how to buy shoes that can last them for at least 4 years. At times just because you buy an expensive thing does not mean it will fit you. Look at the stars and see what they buy as clothes; pure rags that even if you give me for one dollar or for free I will not even take. Sometimes they wear those expensive things and still look like some African masquerades.

I lived in a former neighborhood where neighbors put Christmas lights months ahead of Christmas. I did not put it so one of my neighbors bought some lights for me. I told her I was not going to put them but if she wants she could leave them here and I will give them to the needy. She told me that I was cheap.

In March, I was passing by her house and realized that for more than a week the whole house was dark and quiet. I stopped by one day from school to greet and chat. The kids told me that mommy had gone out. So I asked them why they were living in darkness. They told me that their electricity and gas were cut off because mommy didn’t pay. I called the gas and electricity company, and remitted almost $400.00 for the expensive woman.

To be cheap actually is a virtue rather than a vice. Those who love pleasure, wine and drugs actually end up being poor (Prov 21:17). Sometimes it baffles me to see those who want to prove that they are not cheap give their money to the rich. The Bible says give to those who don’t have!

Until then, being cheap is not a bad thing.
