The Future of CPDM USA.

The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) like any other party or movement faces the challenge of the future. Yet the situation differs from one country to another and from local (Cameroon) to the United States of America (USA). The CPDM has not gotten the foothold that the SDF and SCNC have but it could make itself incontestable as it adapts to the future.

Firstly, CPDM USA must learn to recruit youths. The youths are the future of every organization. The youth wings in the US are all dormant. Catch the chic and you catch the hen is a principle that works amongst birds and animals. Catch the kid and you catch the doe (she-goat) and the buck (he-goat) will follow. When you catch the doe the he-goat comes to deliver her and that is how you catch it too. Therefore, CPDM USA must go for the youths and stop recruiting old people (who think they are still young) because looking at the aged members one easily misjudges their intention.

Secondly, the CPDM USA must learn to variegate its membership pool too because even though you have business people in Cameroon but they are not at the forefront of the party. The party has them at the background as they are the ATM machines of the party. Therefore CPDM America must recruit and showcase real professionals even if they are janitors. The presence of professionals changes the face of the party and creates a facelift that resembles change that will bring creativity and innovation.
Thirdly, CPDM USA must strive to maintain stable leadership. They must give the USA chairman the utmost support necessary to carry on the work without which they destabilize themselves. The constant bickering and in fighting has stagnated the party rather than improve it.

Fourthly, the non interference of local authorities will help the party to grow too. It is abnormal and growth allergic to have people from Yaoundé trying to undercut the authority in the US to discuss with subalterns simply because they have special affinities. Such attitudes are repulsive and create a lot of division and suspicion rather than unity and growth. Whoever the people have voted like Sesekou Joe Mbu should be given the mandate to manage the party abroad while Yaoundé and the rest merely come in to help when he needs them.

Fifthly, the militants must learn and be abreast with the internal regulations of the party so as to avoid conflicts due to ignorance of the internal dynamics of the party. Any confusion that arises because of a mixture of roles will ultimately damage the party for good.

Finally, the CPDM must learn to carry reforms in the US too. It must create a task force to look into the problems of Cameroonians. The issue of passports which made a boom about the embassy tearing or confiscating the passport of Cameroonians should not only be the problem of the opposition. The Embassy is not there for CPDM and it is not CPDM. It is there to represent Cameroonians in the US. So when and if at all it does anything suspicious the ruling party must look into it to dissociate itself from being the brunt and anger of the missteps of the embassy. And the embassy too must separate itself from the claws of the CPDM. That is the only way the CPDM will grow.

Until then, may the people of Cameroon benefit from the CPDM.
